Life is a process that includes many positive and, of course, negative experiences. However, calling these experiences positive or negative is not an adequate definition. Because the description of life and the results it creates can be experienced in different ways.
We know that after experiencing a life, it is in the past.
However, we're pretty good at bringing the effects of that experience (especially if it's negative) into the present.
Rather than leaving this experience in the past, we remember and examine the reasons of what happened.
Then it's not enough and we start thinking about the consequences as well.
This behavior sometimes occurs while on a job, in class, or even in the middle of an enjoyable activity. But it doesn't just interrupt our work, study, sleep or activity, it drawsto now the emotions created by that experience.
Thus, the details of the event circulate in our minds repetitively and we are left alone with our negative emotions in the present.
This behavior, which is quite common and negatively affects our psychological health, behavior and attitudes, “rumination”.
However, it should be known that rumination is not just repetitive thoughts about the past. Ruminations about our own characteristics, behavior and attitudes, or our emotional state are also quite common.
When we say past and present negativities, of course, there is another time period in which rumination is included; that is the future.
Ruminating about the past or the present leads to negative attitudes towards the future.
Therefore, rumination in its many forms settles into our lives and affects us negatively.
One of the main reasons why rumination has this negative effect is that it does not take steps to solve the problem and does not take action despite all the evaluations in mind.
Because it is a very emotion-oriented process, it is difficult to focus on the problem in all its details.
Thus, we cannot act; we ruminate on experience unless we act; rumin' The more we draw the emotions created by the experience into the present, the disrupt our functionality in the present.
The what happens when rumination becomes continuous? According to the research findings, the invoice is quite a bit of puff. Here's a look:
-
Valueness and thus changes in appetite, sleep, and interest in previously attractive activities (depression),
-
Increased sadness, dissatisfaction, inadequacy, tiredness and exhaustion,
-
Psychedelic and poor performance increased by anxious delusions and anxiety,
-
Decrease in some cognitive skills (eg problem solving, generating alternative thoughts, focusing, decision making, etc.)
-
Like few and poor quality human relations...
Let's example to better understand this behavior that brings us this bill and can cause chronic psychological problems.
