The word cancer comes from the Greek word "karkinos", which means crab, as in the writings of Hippocrates, known as the father of medical science, he compared cancer tumors to the claw of a crab. Hippocrates was also the first to distinguish between benign and malignant tumors.
To define cancer simply and clearly, it is possible to describe it as "uncontrolled cell proliferation in tissues and/or organs". Many mechanisms can be mentioned that are known to cause this involuntary and inappropriate excessive cellular proliferation. Among these factors, eating habits are at the forefront, as can be seen in the table below.
The most important message that this table gives us is that we can eliminate the two major factors such as nutrition and tobacco use, which have a 60-70% share in sharing, by increasing the level of awareness, since they are manageable by human beings.

The 2nd National Healthy Life Symposium, which was held in Ankara in 2012, devoted the topic to Cancer and Nutrition and the following detail drew attention:
Average With a single glance, the incidence of cancer will double all over the world by 2030 and it is estimated that 75% of this increase will occur in developing or underdeveloped countries, including our country. Since the countries that will face lifting this weight have only 5% of the budget spent on cancer in the world, it is obligatory to give weight to cancer prevention and early diagnosis in cancer control programs.
The most rational approach to cancer and nutrition should be to adopt nutritional behaviors that can prevent cancer before it comes into question. After the cancer is in question, the thought of eradicating the cancer is delusional, and the thought of affecting its speed is more rational.
-
High amount of animal origin fat, protein intake and consumption of refined sugar (e.g. tea sugar) and sugar-containing food,
-
Consumption of high-energy convenience foods, sedentary life and obesity,
-
Frying, barbecue, barbecue-style cooking techniques exposed to high temperature and direct fire,
-
Preservatives such as nitrite, nitrate in sausage, salami, sausage style Excessive consumption of processed foods containing substances and smoking, smoked-style food processing techniques, (e.g. catechins, flavonols, sulfarophanes…) insufficient dietary intake,
-
Excessive salt and salt-containing food (e.g. brines, soy sauce) and alcohol consumption,
-
Inappropriate packaging materials that come into contact with food, improper storage conditions that may cause mold growth (eg, aflatoxin formation in nuts and risk of liver cancer)
-
Direct or indirect dietary exposure to lead, mercury, cadmium, arsenic (excessive consumption of mussels and bottom fish). One of the most important messages that we need to emphasize under the title is that there is no single nutrient or food that can protect against cancer on its own. In addition, rumors that any food or foodstuff feeds cancer cells are unfounded. In the statements of Elizabeth Platz, one of the leading organizations in cancer, one of the experts of the Johns Hopkins University Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center, it is stated that reducing red meat consumption is appropriate in reducing the risk of cancer, milk cannot be said to have any effect on mucus-producing tumors, and in moderate amounts within a balanced diet pattern. It is stated that food items such as milk, chocolate, meat, coffee, tea and sugar should not be feared, but triggering obesity with the increase in the amount of sugar in the diet is, of course, a risk factor for cancer.
Miracle or guilty There is no food, there is a healthy or unhealthy diet!
There is no savior food or drink after cancer occurs!
Neither reishi mushroom, oleander, ginger, or blended herbal teas… It is wrong and unethical to say that they are cancer-protective or savior for any of them! On the contrary, the fact that individuals undergoing chemotherapy turn to specific foods that do not have a primer can adversely affect the action mechanisms of the drugs used in chemotherapy, and even render the treatment ineffective!
The rational and healthy thing is to include all foods known to be beneficial in the diet in a way that will get enough and balanced energy, and to stay away from harmful food and nutritional habits as much as possible by ensuring weight control.
