Cancer and Nutrition

The word cancer comes from the Greek word "karkinos", which means crab, as in the writings of Hippocrates, known as the father of medical science, he compared cancer tumors to the claw of a crab. Hippocrates was also the first to distinguish between benign and malignant tumors.

To define cancer simply and clearly, it is possible to describe it as "uncontrolled cell proliferation in tissues and/or organs". Many mechanisms can be mentioned that are known to cause this involuntary and inappropriate excessive cellular proliferation. Among these factors, eating habits are at the forefront, as can be seen in the table below.

The most important message that this table gives us is that we can eliminate the two major factors such as nutrition and tobacco use, which have a 60-70% share in sharing, by increasing the level of awareness, since they are manageable by human beings.

The 2nd National Healthy Life Symposium, which was held in Ankara in 2012, devoted the topic to Cancer and Nutrition and the following detail drew attention:

Average With a single glance, the incidence of cancer will double all over the world by 2030 and it is estimated that 75% of this increase will occur in developing or underdeveloped countries, including our country. Since the countries that will face lifting this weight have only 5% of the budget spent on cancer in the world, it is obligatory to give weight to cancer prevention and early diagnosis in cancer control programs.

The most rational approach to cancer and nutrition should be to adopt nutritional behaviors that can prevent cancer before it comes into question. After the cancer is in question, the thought of eradicating the cancer is delusional, and the thought of affecting its speed is more rational.
