Porcelain Laminate Veneer (Leaf Porcelain)

Porcelain laminate veneers are also known as laminated teeth, leaf porcelain, and nail teeth. They are porcelain leaves that are prepared very thinly in the desired color and form by removing 0.3-0.7 mm of material from the front surface of the teeth and adhered to the tooth surface.

IN WHICH CASES ARE PORCELAIN LAMINATE VENEERS APPLIED?

Porcelain laminate veneers are a form of treatment performed to eliminate aesthetic problems, especially in the front teeth. We can summarize the main application areas as follows. .

-In case of tooth discoloration due to various reasons and which cannot be eliminated by teeth whitening,

-In cases of tooth alignment disorders and some crooked teeth as an alternative to orthodontic treatment,

-Closing the gaps (diastema) between the front teeth,

-Extending naturally short teeth due to wear,

-Restoring worn teeth due to erosion,

-In various types of enamel tissue disorders,

-In cases where there are no lateral incisors, canines are processed as lateral teeth and premolars are processed as canine teeth to ensure normal front tooth symmetry,

-Unhealthy conditions on the front surfaces of the teeth are processed. and in the removal of non-aesthetic fillings,

-In cases where teeth are broken due to trauma,

In short, porcelain laminate veneers can be applied in many cases that disturb the patient in an aesthetic sense and can give the patient an aesthetic smile.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF PORCELAIN LAMINATE VENEERS?

Undoubtedly, the biggest advantage is that it is a conservative procedure. It is approximately 0.3-0.7 mm above the tooth. It can be applied by removing very few items. We can briefly summarize its other advantages as follows.

-Since a very small amount of dental tissue will be removed, hot and cold sensitivity that may occur in the tooth will be kept to a minimum. In fact, in most cases, such sensitivity does not occur.

-Porcelain is solid and its color is strong. It is a material that does not deteriorate and is resistant to abrasion. Its color does not change due to factors such as tea, coffee and cigarettes. Therefore, porcelain laminate veneers can be used for many years without changing color or structural changes.

-As the chewing surfaces of the teeth are not touched and remain natural. Since the dental structure is not damaged, the adaptation period is very short. The patient does not lose the feeling of natural teeth.

-Although porcelain is a fragile material in terms of structure, when it chemically adheres to the enamel, it becomes very resistant to tension and tensile forces. Therefore, it is not easy for them to fall out. .

-Another advantage of porcelain laminate veneers is that we have the chance to show the changes that will occur by preparing a model of the teeth without doing any operations on the teeth.

-Thanks to its ability to transmit light, the image closest to the natural tooth is created.

IN WHICH CASES CANNOT PORCELAIN LAMINATE VENEERS BE APPLIED?

-Porcelain laminate veneers are very thin-structured porcelains. Therefore, excessive teeth clenching habit ( Durability problems may arise in patients with bruxism).

- It may not be possible to treat teeth with excessive crowding and rotation with laminate. In this case, what needs to be done is orthodontic treatment or zirconium-supported porcelain.

- Lack of adequate enamel support as a result of decay or trauma will not leave sufficient adhesion area for laminate veneers, so it would be more appropriate to apply it.

-Durability problems may arise in primary teeth and teeth with excessive fluorosis, as chemical adhesion will not be at the highest level.

-Teeth that have not completed their eruption should be expected to erupt fully.
