Hello,
I will share with you an article based on the technology (screen) addiction seminars that I hold in various educational institutions, which is one of my areas of work.

First of all, I would like to talk about what technology is. Technology can be called information used in daily use to expand human capabilities and meet human needs. At this point, technology can be compared to a tree with different fruits on different branches. This tree meets many needs in our lives with its various fruits. When we look at what can be called technology, we see that some sources write that the calendar and abacus are the first technological products, while some sources are based on fire; However, as a result, technology is such a process that, starting with the discovery of fire many years ago, it has turned into a dimension that explores water resources outside the world.
Although we are not very aware of it in our daily lives, we actually live our lives with the many products that technology offers us. We can continue more easily. We can now automatically perform operations that used to take hours or days. The most visible technological products are those that enter our lives through screens such as computers, mobile phones and televisions.
So, how does technology, which always seems to be for the benefit of people, become harmful and addictive? can it come?
At this point, it is necessary to take a closer look at the concepts of addiction and technology addiction. Addiction is when a person loses control over an object or an action and is unable to live without it. When addiction is mentioned, the use and need for addictive substances comes to mind. In fact, although this approach is somewhat correct, it may lead to a wrong understanding. Because although the addiction mechanism basically works the same, addictive products may vary. To explain more clearly, in addiction processes (except for addictive chemicals), what is used is more important than what is used. In other words, “It relieves my stress.” used, referred to, related to Many items mentioned can be addictive, and one of them may be technology. If we use technology to benefit, to continue our development, to keep our connection with the world up to date, this is understandable; However, if we use it as a remedy when we are sad or when we feel emotionally and psychologically inadequate/bad, technology can become addictive, like all other products. With this process, we can say that technology addiction is the display of addiction characteristics in the use of technology.
So, who can be potential addict candidates? If we look at the most common addict profiles, we come across people who spend more time on technology and do not benefit from it as much as they spend, and therefore lose their daily functions. These people also;
-
Experience problems when left without technology,
-
Show symptoms of a loss of control when left without technology,
-
He thinks about technological products even when he is not interested in them,
-
He uses his daily income and more than his needs as technology investments and in this case, he has financial difficulties in continuing his life. living,
-
who resort to technology in unhappy and emotionally negative moments,
... has been seen. (Ögel, 2012)
If you have difficulty with the subject and symptoms I mentioned above, going to the nearest mental health institution will be an important step in preventing the formation of addiction processes or breaking the current addiction cycle.
