Waist-Neck Hernia

It is used to control pain in cases such as disc herniation (lumbar-cervical herniation), slipped disc and narrow spinal canal. The aim here is to reduce inflammation and edema caused by pressure and to dissolve adhesions.

How is ESE Performed?
The intervention is performed by Algology experts under continuous radiological imaging (with C-arm scopy). During the procedure, the patient's vital functions are monitored by an anesthesiologist and medication is administered intravenously to prevent the patient from feeling pain. All procedures are performed under local anesthesia.

Transforaminal technique: The medication is administered around the affected nerve by entering it with a needle through the hole where the problematic spinal nerve exits the spine. It is an intervention aimed at the nerve targeted for treatment. The drug is given in the least volume and highest concentration in this technique.

Points the Patient Should Pay Attention to Before ESE
Fasting for about 4 hours before epidural steroid injection is sufficient. Regularly used medications such as blood pressure pills and heart medications should be taken with little water.

Things to Do After ESE
You need to rest for 1-2 hours after the procedure. After the injection, there may be pain in the lower back and temporary numbness and pain in the leg where the procedure was performed. The pain complaint, which decreases after the intervention, may start again within 4-6 hours. This is due to the fact that the effect of the local anesthetic has disappeared. The main effect of the long-acting steroid reaches the desired level within 48-72 hours and your pain complaint begins to decrease within 3-4 days. 2-3 days of rest are recommended after the intervention. During this time, movements that will put excessive strain on the waist or neck should be avoided.
