WHAT SITUATIONS AFFECT OUR LIVES? NEGATIVE EFFECTS?
Anxiety is related to the individual's perception. Real or perceived dangers affect individuals of all ages and social groups. Is anxiety really a danger in a situation? The answer to this is very important. If we react with anxiety in situations where there is no real danger, and if we have difficulty in managing and coping with anxiety, we can say that it has become a problem.
HOW CAN WE KNOW IF THERE IS ANXIETY?
Anxiety manifests itself as physical changes, psychological changes and behavioral changes.
Physical Changes; Muscle tension increases, sympathetic (sweating, BP and respiration increase, tremors in the limbs, muscle tension) parasympathetic (k) activity increases (feeling that the fever will stop, feeling faint, cramps, abdominal pain). Levels of stress hormones, epinephrine and norepinephrine increase. Cortisol, growth hormone, prolactin increase. Testosterone release decreases.
If you do not know the meaning of the physical symptom, you cannot accurately interpret what is happening in your body. Do I have a tumor in my brain? I think I'm having a heart attack? These thoughts make you more anxious and this negative feeling continues.
Psychological Changes; Feeling of fear, panic, discomfort. The feeling of not being able to cope, the feeling of losing your mind, the thought of having a heart attack, the feeling of fear of getting sick, the feeling of worry. Feeling of helplessness, pessimism. Many factors may occur, such as thinking that people are looking at you and acting strange, thinking that you are acting and talking stupidly, wanting to run away and go to a safe place. Not all of these changes may be experienced, only one may be experienced very intensely.
Behavioral, cognitive changes; It continues with situations such as difficulty in concentration, decrease in attention, decrease in problem-solving skills, moving away from the environment, staying away from people, avoiding crowds, avoiding eye contact, criticizing oneself and others, and crying. WAYS TO COPE
First of all, the first stage of coping ways is to recognize anxiety and know its nature. To define what kind of anxiety we experience, what does the anxiety you experience look like? What color would it be? Concretizing your anxiety will make you more comfortable. Methods such as progressive relaxation and controlled breathing will help reduce your anxiety. If your anxiety is so high that you cannot control it and it has reached a level that impairs your functionality, you may need to consult a specialist.
