Robotic Surgery

Robotic surgery is a technology developed to perform the same operation as open heart surgery without opening the breastbone (as in the past, open gallbladder surgeries were now performed laparoscopically through small holes).
In robotic surgery, there is a patient unit to which the surgical instruments and camera system are connected. The arms of this device are placed on the patient in the surgery area through tiny holes. There is a surgeon console from which the surgeon controls this unit. The surgeon performs the surgery away from the patient, with the help of arms controlled from this console.

Which Heart Surgeries Can Be Performed Robotically?

Robotic Bypass Surgery

Not every bypass surgery is suitable to be performed robotically. It can be applied in approximately 20% of bypass patients.
This surgery is especially suitable for the vein or vessels on the front of the heart.
>During the surgery, the chest wall artery (internal mammary artery) is prepared through three holes with the help of robotic arms. Bypass surgery is performed through a 4 cm incision under the left chest.
In cases where more vessels need to be bypassed, bypass surgery is performed robotically on the vein on the front of the heart in suitable patients. Afterwards, stents are placed in other vessels angiographically (Hybrid operation). Thus, the entire vascular system is opened for a long time without opening the breastbone.

Mitral Valve and Other Surgeries

The operation is performed by placing robotic arms through three separate holes.
The valve is repaired or replaced with a 3 cm incision under the right breast.
Tricuspid valve repair, heart hole repair and heart tumor operations can be performed with the same incisions.
