Loneliness and Phone Addiction

As a result of spouses not showing the necessary attention to each other and their children, spending too much time on the phone and neglecting their primary duties, it is inevitable to experience unrest in the family. A person realizes the value of the time he stole from his family and his own life only when he loses his health or loses his family.

TECHNOLOGY has become an inseparable part of our lives. The first thing human beings do as soon as they wake up in the morning is to look at their phone, "I wonder if I missed something?" When there is a power outage, it feels as if life has stopped.

Do we manage technology or do we manage technology? We must ask ourselves this. If it takes up a significant part of our time and harms our communication with people, we can talk about “addiction” here.

Addiction is “the loss of control over an object or action that a person uses and begins to live without it”. In other words, the will in use and behavior disappears and the person continues the addicted use or behavior whether he wants it or not. (Green Crescent)

Use and behavior take up a serious part of life; In addiction, a person devotes most of his time and energy to the substance or action to which he is addicted.

Mobile devices have surrounded us. Wherever we turn our heads, everyone is immersed in their phone screen. “Sometimes books have been replaced by phones?” I don't think so.

If you think of only drugs, alcohol or tobacco when we say "addiction", you are wrong. If you feel the need to check your phone every few minutes and don't go from room to room without a phone, we have bad news: You're an addict, too! (Or you are on your way to becoming addicted.)

Especially messaging, games and social media applications are among the main causes of phone addiction. It is not uncommon for teenagers and adults alike to constantly feel the need to be “connected” to social media and the internet. This often leads to young people's fear of missing out and being left out.

"Am I addicted to the phone too?" If you think, you can have an idea by looking at these symptoms. you may be: the need to check the phone frequently; showing withdrawal symptoms when away from the phone, irritability, embarrassment; decrease in work and school productivity due to time spent on the phone; avoidance of involvement in social life; disorders in sleeping and eating patterns due to spending too much time on the phone; Continuing to use technology despite causing a mental, social, legal or physical problem.

A person does not wake up as an addict when he goes to bed at night and wakes up in the morning. It's a process, it goes step by step. These steps are signs that we should take seriously that addiction is developing.

New words have entered our lives. One of them is “Nomophobia” (English “no-mobile-phone phobia”). Fear of panic and despair when separated from mobile phone. It has been observed that impulsive disorders, anger and difficulty in focusing occur in these people when they are away from the phone for a short time.

The “Phantom vibration syndrome” is known as the feeling that the phone is ringing at any moment. In this disorder, which is also known as "ghost vibration syndrome", the person feels that the phone is ringing even if it is not ringing.

Textaphrenia is known as "message obsession". In this disorder, people experience anxiety about whether their e-mail or SMS is going.

Do the conditions of life push us to become dependent?

The feeling of loneliness and alienation brought about by the living conditions we are in now begins to exist in the virtual environment, not in the real environment. . And with this, new things are added to the virtual world every day, trying to show people nice and attractive. Mankind is being pushed towards living alone. As a result, we have become a society that is unhappy, dissatisfied, living away from trees and soil, and detached from its essence. All of these lead to psychological disorders and increase phone addiction. As loneliness increases, so does the possibility of nomophobia.

People who feel lonely, while strengthening their ties with the phone and other social sites, gradually began to reduce face-to-face communication. As a result, the lack of face-to-face communication creates a widespread feeling of “loneliness” in people.

Technology face-to-face forgot e-communication. According to the results of a study conducted abroad, it has been observed that young people who spend a total of eight hours a day communicating virtual cannot make eye contact with their interlocutors or look away. Communication is a mutual interaction process. Effective communication allows the individual to know himself and be aware of his attitudes.

Addiction harms the person both mentally and physically. If we take a look at the bodily harms of addiction, standing still for a long time causes damage to the skeletal and muscular system depending on the use of technology. Posture disorders occur. It can cause problems with the eyes and a decline in language skills. Psychological harms, especially in children and young people, increase the risk of encountering inappropriate content, as well as cause the feeling of empathy to atrophy, the evil to become commonplace due to cruel comments, the emergence and increase of attention deficit, and the weakening of the level of tolerance. Anxiety disorders such as difficulty in managing time, fear of being involved in real life, and showing anger or withdrawal symptoms may also occur. People are trying to do several things at once while driving. They are distracted because they look at both the road and the phone's screen, thus endangering their own lives and the lives of others.

How does technology addiction affect the brain?

At the neurological level, excessive use of technology is not the same as using drugs, alcohol, and other addictive substances, but the brain processes both addictions in the same way. Leveling up in a game or getting likes on one's pictures causes the brain to release dopamine and other feel-good chemicals. Over time, the person wants to experience the effect of this happiness hormone again and again. Because of this, more likes and desire to play arise.

We are not aware of it, but because of technology, our brains become lazy, we forget more. Our abilities that feed the brain, such as thinking, questioning, and research, become dull over time. Recently, whatever is asked, especially young people and children have been looking for the answer to the question on the computer. This situation reduces the thinking power and learning capacity of children whose brains are developing. If the brain does not work, after a while the thought function slows down and forgetfulness becomes inevitable.

We see that there are problems in family relations due to excessive internet and mobile phone use. Unrest in the family is inevitable as a result of spouses not showing the necessary attention to each other and their children, spending too much time on the phone, and neglecting their main duties. A person realizes the value of the time he stole from his family and his own life only when he loses his health or loses his family.

The person who leaves does not come back; for this, appreciate your time, health and your loved ones!
