Canker sores are a very common problem!

Canker sores are very painful ulcerated sores that appear in the mouth, often on the cheek and lip mucosa, on the tongue, soft palate, pharynx, and gums. The first person to describe canker sores was Hippocrates, meaning that this disease was known even in the years before Christ.

Various factors such as deficiency of elements such as iron, vit_B12, folic acid and zinc, hormonal irregularities, mental disorders such as stress, and allergies have been considered as the cause of the aphthous ulcer. People with recurrent aphthous ulcers are especially sensitive to foods such as eggplant, tomato, strawberry and walnut. However, no definitive conclusion has been reached on the root cause.

Canker sores heal within 7-10 days even if no treatment is given. There is no chance of preventing the canker sores from coming out for sure. It is possible to treat the canker sores with laser or a surgical method. It is not. The best treatment method is to apply oral creams containing corticosteroids. These creams allow the wounds to heal in a shorter time. Additionally, mixing a tetracycline derivative antibiotic tablet with a glass of water and rinsing the mouth will accelerate the healing process. If there is too much pain, pain-relieving creams that can be applied to the aphthous surface. However, these creams do not have any therapeutic properties.

Research shows that canker sores are an auto-immune disease. Canker sores are not contagious and are not caused by viruses. In short, when body resistance decreases, aphtha occurs spontaneously.

60% of the society has one or more aphtha before the age of 30. It is more common in women than in men. Its incidence decreases with age.

Although it is very common in society, not every wound that occurs in the mouth should be considered to be an aphthous ulcer. If the wounds that are thought to be an aphthous ulcer do not heal in more than 10 days, if they recur very frequently or if their number is more than one at a time, a physician should be consulted. Because some formations that patients may consider to be simple aphthous ulcers are systemic. It may be a sign of some diseases. For example, sores may occur in the mouth in diseases such as Behçet's disease, syphilis or leukemia. These formations are evaluated by physicians. It should be downloaded.

I wish you a healthy day.
