Neck calcification, which has been common in recent years, is caused by many occupational groups that offer sedentary working environments. Neck calcification occurs as a result of the wear of the cervical vertebrae and the disc structures between them. These changes create pressure on the nerves by narrowing the canal through which the spinal cord passes or the canals through which the nerves exiting between the vertebrae pass. Due to this pressure, pain and numbness occur in the neck and arms. Neck arthritis is frequently seen in older ages, in those who do physically heavy work or work in the same position for a long time, in those who have a stressful job, in overweight people, and in people with scoliosis.
These patients often experience arm pain, which increases with neck movements and decreases with rest. Pain radiating to the shoulders, numbness, muscle weakness, sensory deficits, and sleep disturbance, restlessness, and depression may occur as the duration of the pain increases. MRI and X-ray films show flattening of the hernia in the neck, narrowing of the joint space, angulation of the neck and calcification.

The path to be followed during the treatment of neck calcification depends on the severity of the pain that causes calcification. . After the cause of the pain is fully determined, the muscles that relieve the weight on the neck bones are developed by applying the movements given by the physical therapist. Wearing a neck brace may be a solution during periods when pain is intense. However, if the neck brace is used constantly, it can weaken the neck muscles. They benefit significantly from physical therapy.
