Our children are precious parts of our home. We want to protect them from everything, but maybe we unintentionally harm them. How Does? Let me give you a hint. I'm talking about the item(s) in your home that never move... .
I'm talking about the technological devices that are an inevitable reality of our modern age. Most of us use our phones or computers to communicate, work, pay bills, and even get from A to B. With each passing day, technology makes our lives easier and we become more accustomed to technology.
I believe there are two types of adaptation. 1. Benefiting from the convenience of Technology 2. Technology addiction.
If you think your child may be in the second category, the sooner you figure it out, the better!...
According to the Australian Health Survey. One study found that, on average, children and teens ages 5-17 spend an hour and a half a day in physical activity and more than three hours a day in screen-based activities. However, he reported that physical activity decreases and screen-based activity increases with age.
So, what are the signs of technology addiction, especially in children?
-
Being restless when there is no technological device around and wanting to meet with the device as soon as possible.
-
The child prefers technological activities instead of family or friend activities. Having too much desire to spend time with devices
-
Your child's success rate at school is decreasing. (Playing games on the computer instead of doing homework plays a big role in decreasing success.)
-
Your child goes beyond the time you set for screen time.
-
Your child exhibits angry and aggressive behavior when told to stop playing on electronic devices.
-
Your child desires more screen time other than the screen time given to him/her.
If a few of these items apply to your child, it means it is time to take action and create a healthy digital platform for your child and your family.
Child What do we need to do to ensure that our citizens use social platforms healthily? ?
The family plays a big role here. Benefiting from technology in a healthy way can give us pleasure. But we must not miss the point. I would like to share with you what we can do to prevent overuse.
-
Agreements should be made to limit the use of electronic devices.
-
We can limit it to 2 hours on weekdays and 4 hours on weekends.
-
Parents should control the pages their children can access, ensure that their children have a healthy life.
-
Until a certain age, keeping a technological device in one's room should be avoided, and having it in common areas where adults can monitor it, such as a common study room, prevents overuse.
-
We can arrange technology use in a hierarchical order. We must explain this to the child. For example; Putting it in desks such as "after coming from school, eating, doing homework, then you have 1 hour on the computer" helps the child to stay organized and use it in a healthy way.
It is one of the sayings we always hear from our elders; "Excessive amount of everything is harmful" . We should be aware of this and use technology in a healthy way.
The biggest role models of our children are their mothers and fathers. If they see us constantly looking at our smartphone or playing computer games, they will want to do the same. Let's try to limit your own screen use while spending time with your children.
