Slimming Balloon

The stomach slimming balloon has been used in our country for about 8 years; It has been applied in many countries and many patients in the world and is still widely applied.

Although the ideal method for losing weight is diet and exercise; Most of the time, people look for alternative ways because they cannot do this, and sometimes because they find it easy. Nowadays, many methods, both surgical and non-surgical, are being tried.

It has the least side effects among the interventional methods for people with a BMI (Body mass index = HEIGHT x HEIGHT (cm) / WEIGHT (Kg)) between 30-40. STOMACH SLIMMING BALLOONS are one of the most easily applied methods.

Stomach slimming balloons are inserted endoscopically and while the patient is asleep, in approximately 15-20 minutes, and the patient can return to normal life within 1-2 hours after the procedure.

After the balloon remains in the stomach for a maximum of 6-7 months, it is removed from the stomach with a procedure similar to inserting it with an endoscope.

The inside of the balloon is filled with air or liquid depending on the type of balloon used, and the balloon volume depends on the experience of the person and the endoscopist who applies the balloon. It varies between 500-800 cc.

In our clinic, due to our past experiences, balloons filled with liquid are preferred and the inside of the balloon is filled with blue colored (methylene blue) salt water.

After the balloon is applied, balloons filled with liquid are preferred for a few minutes. On the first day, some patients may experience nausea and vomiting, but this situation improves later as the stomach adapts to the balloon. Since the feeling of fullness is constantly transmitted to the brain in balloon-treated patients, the patient constantly feels full and does not feel the need to eat. Patients who are hydrated and often given gastroprotective medication lose weight rapidly, especially in the first weeks following balloon insertion, and the weight loss continues to decrease in the following months.

At the end of six months, patients can often lose 15-35% of their weight. .

The easiest part of the gastric balloon is inserting and removing the balloon. The most difficult thing is to maintain weight after the balloon is removed. For this, it is sufficient to get professional support (dietitian) and continue the habit of eating small and slow, which was acquired during the time the balloon was inserted.

We have been using balloons in our clinic for 6 years. The patients lost approximately 12 to 46 kilograms of weight, and most of them maintained their weight after the balloon. However, very few patients regained a significant portion of the weight they lost.
