Eating Attitudes and Eating Disorders

Eating attitude is a complex structure formed by the regulation of motor, cognitive, social and emotional developments by central and environmental factors. It is also related to the formation of all social relationships, starting from the mother-baby relationship that begins with birth. Eating behavior is associated with various pleasurable and painful experiences (Saygılı, 1999).

In the psychology literature, attitude; It is defined as the tendency that is imposed on the person and creates the person's emotions, thoughts and behaviors (Smith, 1968; cited in Arkonaç, 2008). When evaluated from this perspective, it is thought that attitudes do not refer to the concrete behaviors exhibited by individuals, but to the abstract tendencies that pave the way for behaviors. If this concept is examined in relation to eating attitude, eating attitude can be defined as a person's tendency to create feelings, thoughts and behaviors related to eating and nutrition (Arkonaç, 2008).
