Acoustic Trauma
Acoustic trauma is a common type of hearing loss. Usually, after a blow or explosion to the ear, the air pressure changes very suddenly. This damages the sensitive bones and mechanism of the ear. It is also seen in people who have to listen to loud machine noise and extremely loud music for a long time.
What are the symptoms?
• Hearing loss
• Tinnitus.
How to Diagnose?
Hearing loss that occurs after a nearby explosion or a blow to the ear is a common condition. Partial deafness may also be accompanied by high-pitched tinnitus. Your doctor will determine which type of hearing loss you have by performing a series of tests.
Treatment
The only effective treatment for severe hearing loss caused by trauma is hearing aids. Some methods may also make it easier to adapt to partial deafness; These include paying attention to facial expressions and reading lips.
Precaution
If you know you will be working in a loud workplace, use specially made headphones. These block out more or less all noise and can be fitted with a microphone and receiver so that the wearer can communicate with other people.
