After the implant operation, our patients have a great responsibility. While some of our patients strictly follow their doctors' advice, others underestimate the procedure and do not follow the recommendations. Following the recommended recommendations is important both for the successful fusing of the implant with the bone and for our patients to have a comfortable postoperative period. Things to do;
1) Mouthwashes: Many studies have proven that antibacterial mouthwashes used regularly after the operation increase the quality of the surgery.
2 ) Cold Compress: Applying cold compresses to the operation area of our patients from the cheek side intermittently for the first 48 hours reduces postoperative swelling, bleeding and pain complaints. Cold compress application is the second golden rule after regular medication use and is of great importance.
3) Tooth Brushing: Whether it is an implant operation, gum surgery or tooth extraction, in short, in the mouth. After each surgery, our patients must continue to brush regularly. There is no harm in touching the operation area with a toothbrush or toothpaste. In fact, cleaning the sutures is of great importance for the wound area to heal more easily.
4) Nutrition: You should eat soft foods, plenty of fluids and plenty of fluids. It is very important to consume water and eat warm and cold foods. Nutrition is of great importance in this process. Our patients not eating for fear of damaging the surgery area may lead to a decrease in their general health status and body resistance.
Things not to do
1) For Bleeding Control: It is normal to have bleeding for 48 hours after surgery. Pressure can be applied to the surgical site with gauze to control and reduce blood flow. In addition, it is important to avoid extremely hot drinks such as tea, coffee and soup after the operation and to consume these foods warmly if desired. It should not be forgotten that the vessels will expand in the heat and bleeding will increase. For this reason, in the first 48 hours after the operation, body temperature changes such as hot baths, sports, sauna etc. Activities that increase blood pressure should be avoided.
2)Smoking:It has been determined in many studies that smoking increases the number of microorganisms in the mouth 3-4 times compared to non-smoking individuals. Therefore, smoking after dental implant surgery increases the risk of infection, which may cause dental implants to fail to integrate. In order to prevent the possibility of infection, if possible, no smoking should be done for the first 48 hours after the operation and it should be consumed at least in the following week.
