I'm glad I have a brother...

When examined etymologically, the word sibling is a word that expresses the relative status of people who share at least one of the parents. Having the same blood, being an older brother, sister or younger sibling must be one of the best feelings in the world. When we look at the concept of brotherhood today, even though our parents are different, we also have siblings whom we love as much as siblings, whom we consider as older brothers and sisters, and with whom we establish warm bonds.
What does it mean to have a sibling?
First of all, it means sharing. It means sharing your place, your bed, your possessions, your joy and sadness. It means learning together. He is the only brother you can hold by the hand as you stumble forward in life. Being selfless means loving and trusting. It means having another person like yourself.
At what age does the concept of being a sibling develop?
This concept is not something that can be understood at an age when abstract concepts are not developed. Especially the elder member of the family sees the person who comes after him as a guest and loves him very much in the beginning. When the guest stays longer, things may start to change. At this point, the role of parents and other family elders is very important.
What should be taken into consideration when giving the news of a sibling to an older child?
1- Pregnancy helps a healthy growth,
2- The baby can be felt in the womb,
3- It would be appropriate to make sure that the mother and father give the news of the sibling together.
4- Care should be taken to use age-appropriate and simple words so that he/she will be happy and loving just like him/her.
The concept of sibling is age-appropriate. What awaits the family after it is explained on the spot and the news of the sibling is given?
The real period begins after giving this news, because after the sibling news is digested a little, the individual's questions about himself/herself begin. As a parent, answering every question of your older sibling sincerely, in age-appropriate language, will also prevent possible sibling jealousy. Sibling jealousy is actually nothing more than competition between individuals. The important thing is that parents manage this situation well. Because every parent knows their own child best. Feel and see the problems of the older sibling and act together with the younger sibling in a way that understands him/her. In this case, a sweet competition environment is created between siblings and can be easily resolved with love.
My suggestions to my families to prevent negative sibling rivalry:
1- Older children should be prepared for their siblings in age-appropriate and realistic language.
2- Mothers and fathers must be ready to make room in their lives for each of their children and they must make this felt.
3- Mothers and fathers must know that imposing certain restrictions and prohibitions on the incoming sibling is actually a devastation for the older sibling.
4- The tense and hectic state of the mother and father makes one feel that the arrival of the younger sibling has a negative impact.
5- All children need to feel that they have a place in the family, that they are accepted, wanted and loved.
6- Comparison and responsibility between children. Expressions such as attribution and blame should not be used.
7- One should not take sides in the problems between siblings.
8- In cases of unmanageable sibling jealousy, it is necessary to seek expert support and opinion.

Every child has a sibling. has the right. I can't thank my parents enough, I'm glad I have a sibling...
I wish you healthy days.
