Normal Birth; It is the birth of the baby vaginally without any intervention. In fact, normal birth is vaginal. When intervention is required (caesarean section, vacuum or forceps applications), it is necessary to talk about an application that goes beyond normal.
ADVANTAGES OF NORMAL BIRTH
- It is healthy and natural.
- The mother-baby connection is not interrupted. Communication with the baby is ensured.
- Prepares for motherhood. The time spent at birth and the hormones allowed to activate provide the transition to motherhood.
- Return to normal and the postpartum period becomes more comfortable and active.
- Breastfeeding becomes more comfortable and faster.
- Breathing begins more easily for the baby, as it can better expel water from the lungs during passage through the birth canal.
REASONS FOR THE INCREASE OF CAESAREAS
Today, in our country and around the world. Cesarean section has increased to medically unacceptable proportions. The planning of the cesarean section, the fear of expectant mothers towards birth pain, and the desire to have access to everything ready and quickly in today's world have been major factors in this.
Explainable reasons for this issue:
- Increasing maternal age (education and working life) and higher risk pregnancies More fetal distress is diagnosed with better fetal heartbeat monitoring at birth, but sometimes "unreliable heartbeats" end in cesarean section
- Less use of vacuum and forceps applications
- Waiting for spontaneous birth or switching to cesarean section without trying labor induction through pain in the daylight hours
- Increasing obesity and decrease in the ability to give birth
- Increase in risky pregnancies (in vitro fertilization, multiple pregnancy, premature birth, preeclamsia, ..) and more ending in cesarean section
- Malpractice lawsuits The more defensive attitudes of doctors due to the increase in births
- The required duty conditions in hospitals, team inadequacies (anesthesia, pediatricians,,,) can be explained as the necessity of completing the birth during daylight hours.
The cesarean rate recommended by the World Health Organization is 15%.
However, in our country, the rate, which was 4-5% in the 1970s, was 14% in 1998 and increased to 49-50% in 2012.
Cesarean section rates are higher in our western provinces, in urban areas, in families with higher education levels, and in private hospitals.
As of 2013, the Ministry of Health has set a target of 35% for the caesarean section rate. Our country's rate is very high compared to many countries in the world and it needs to be planned urgently.
This rate is 30% in America, 13-14% in northern European countries such as the Netherlands-Belgium-Norway, 17-20% in France, 30% in Germany, and 3-4% in African countries due to very low quality health services. .
PHASES OF BIRTH
1st STAGE- The closed cervix begins to open with pain and the opening reaches 10 cm
2. PHASE: After full dilatation is achieved, the baby's head passes into the vagina and comes to the world from there, the cord is cut and separated from the mother, and the baby takes its first breath. /> 4TH STAGE: Postpartum (6 weeks), breastfeeding and return of the system and start of menstruation
