We can encounter a picture of addiction when it is used excessively. It is known that addiction to social media causes academic, relational, financial, professional and physical problems like any addiction. Criteria showing social media addiction are listed as follows: Excessive preoccupation with social media, using social media to reduce negative emotions, using social media more and more to get the same pleasure (development of tolerance), experiencing distress and restlessness when social media is not used, using social media. sacrificing responsibilities and/or other important life events for the sake of it (impaired functionality), unsuccessful efforts to control social media use, and reverting to previous use (Andreassen et al., 2017).

The efforts of addicts to hide their internet use and the lies they tell about it cause insecurity and arguments in their close relationships.
