Since the size and shape of many elements that make up our face and even our head vary between individuals, people perceive and recognize each other differently. Our nose, which attracts attention because it is located in the very center of our face, which contains many structures, closest to our eyes, is the structure that is most frequently reshaped for aesthetic purposes.
Since the nose is located in the very center, its harmony with other structures, size and transition relationship are smooth. It depends. However, our nose is not just a structure related to appearance. It is also important because it provides very important functions such as breathing and smelling. Even though a nose that cannot perform all its functions may be good in appearance, it can cause the person carrying it to be unhappy.
The functions of your nose are not only related to your external structure. The structures at the back of your nose, the SEPTUM (the wall separating the two nasal cavities) and the CONCHA (the structures that regulate the airflow in the nose), are also important in breathing. These structures can also be corrected with functional interventions during aesthetic nose surgery.
For a better cooperation with your doctor, it will be productive to discuss the changes made on your photograph together. The purpose of the SIMULATION performed by your doctor is to understand whether his and your thoughts coincide and to make pre-operative planning. Your postoperative appearance will be close to the simulation, but it is usually not possible to be exactly the same. This is because the structures that make up your nose consist of skin, cartilage and bone, and these structures can give unpredictable responses during both surgical intervention and the recovery period.
Patients who have previously undergone surgery or had an accident
If you are this type of patient, the surgery will be more difficult due to the deterioration of your normal anatomy. Because you do not have healthy tissues, you may not be suitable for every desired intervention, or tissue may need to be removed from other parts of your body to meet the tissue need.
Age for Surgery
17 for women and 18 for men. Rhinoplasty surgery can be performed starting from the age of 10.
Operation Methods
Rhinoplasty There are two methods for operation i: open and closed. Since both methods have advantages and disadvantages, these are taken into consideration when deciding on their suitability for the patient.
The open method is the technique that is more commonly used today. In the open method, you will have a small scar connecting the two nostrils. This scar will become less obvious in the future. The advantage of this technique is that it facilitates the interventions on the cartilages and provides adequate control during the surgery.
In the closed technique, all scars will remain inside the nose. However, the interventions to be performed are more difficult to control.
The method is decided in accordance with the personal needs and priorities of each patient in harmony with the doctor.
Anesthesia Method and Duration
Nose surgeries are performed in a hospital environment under general anesthesia. The average duration of surgery is between 2-3 hours. At the end of the operation, a silicone tampon is placed inside the patient's nose and a silicone cast is placed on the back of the nose. The reason is; Both to reduce the swelling that will occur in the early period and to ensure that the new nasal structure is supported for a while and its shape fits properly.
The patient is discharged one day after the operation. Silicone tampons in the nose are removed within 2-5 days. In patients who underwent open rhinoplasty technique, the stitches are removed on the 5th or 7th day, and the cast is removed on the 7th or 8th day.
Healing Process
During the procedure immediately after the surgery. Depending on the bleeding and the person's skin structure, bruising and swelling may occur around the eyes. This is a normal situation. The resulting bruising and swelling disappear completely within approximately 2 weeks and continue to improve day by day. Although a rapid recovery is observed in the first weeks after the surgery, it takes between 6 months and 1 year for your nose to take its full shape.
