The skeletal bone structure of the face is of great importance in having proportional facial features that evoke a sense of beauty. When evaluating the aesthetic proportions of the face, the proportions in the forehead, nose, cheekbones and chin areas are definitely evaluated. The bone structure of a beautiful face should also be compatible in terms of facial proportions.
In the front and side views of the face, the most prominent characteristic is the protrusion of the nose, cheekbones (malar bones) and jawbone. . Facial implants are used successfully to correct skeletal deficiencies and asymmetries, especially in the cheekbone and chin areas, and to give the face an aesthetically attractive contour. While in the past, these surgeries were performed with bones and cartilages taken from the patient's own body, today, thanks to the developing technology, repair is preferred with ready-made implants without damaging another part of the body.
Implant materials are produced after long and meticulous research and are long-lasting. These are materials that are planned to remain with the patient throughout the patient's life and can be easily removed and returned when not desired. Today, Medpor and hard silicone implants, produced in various sizes and shapes, are used without any problems.
JAW IMPLANTS
While jaw and jaw tip problems are evaluated, the closure of the teeth is also checked. is done. If the teeth do not have an ideal bite, orthodontic treatment is recommended first, and if necessary, orthognathic surgery to correct the jawbone and bite is recommended. If there is no problem with tooth closure, and the issue is only the tip of the chin and/or the side of the chin, implants suitable for these areas are selected and applied.
Usually, a pocket in which the prosthesis will be placed at the tip of the chin is prepared with a small incision in the mouth. The prosthesis of the desired size and shape is selected and placed. Depending on the condition of the opened pocket, the implant is sometimes fixed with small screws and its movement is prevented. Apart from the chin tip, there are also implants designed to expand the side edges of the chin. Their use is similar to chin tip prostheses. Prosthesis placement is often done under general anesthesia. The surgery takes approximately 1 hour. After the operation, the jaw is fixed with tapes and 3-4 days It is taken the next day. In the first days, it is necessary to eat soft food, avoid hard foods and gargle frequently. In the first days, there may be tenderness, swelling, and numbness in the lower lip, but then it gets better quickly. Rarely, infection in the early period, change of place in the prosthesis if not detected in the late period, and palpability of the edges of the prosthesis are situations that may be encountered. The prosthesis may need to be filed or replaced.
CHEWBONE IMPLANTS
When evaluating the zygomatic bone, the development of the upper jaw is examined. If the problem is only in the size and position of the cheekbone, malar implants may be considered. If there is a general deficiency in the development of the upper jaw and a malocclusion of the teeth, orthognathic surgery may be considered. In cases of mild deficiencies in the cheekbone and mid-face area, fat injections may be planned. When more prominent and shaped applications are desired, malar implant applications are very effective. They are usually placed intraorally. The surgery takes about 1 hour, severe pain and discomfort is not expected. Recovery is rapid. Implants, although rare, have the possibility of displacement or reaction. The need to plan a new surgical intervention may arise
