Benefits of Kefir

First of all, what is kefir?

Kefir is a fermented drink made from milk. Kefir grains can also be made from a variety of milk alternatives, such as soy milk, rice milk, nut milk, and coconut milk. Bacteria ferment the milk and create a number of different substances such as vitamins, acetate and lactate. It resembles ayran in appearance, but the probiotics it contains are different from yoghurt.

So what are these probiotics? Probiotics are live microorganisms that ensure microbial balance in the intestines. Beneficial probiotic bacteria species found in kefir are: Lactobacillus acidophilus, Bifidobacterium bifidum, Streptococcus thermophilus, Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus, Lactobacillus helveticus, Lactobacillus kefiranofaciens, Lactococcus lactis and Leuconostoc species.

What benefits do these probiotics, which are enemies of harmful bacteria found abundantly in kefir, provide to our body? >•          They help eliminate constipation problems and bad breath.

•          They control harmful bacteria in the intestines and strengthen the immune system.

•          They rearrange the intestines, whose natural flora is disrupted due to the use of antibiotics. p>

•          They are responsible for the production and absorption of group B and vitamin K.

•          They increase the absorption of calcium from the intestines.

•          They prevent infections caused by harmful bacteria,

•          By keeping the vaginal flora in balance, they prevent the development of pathogenic microorganisms (Candida) that cause vaginal infections.

•          They prevent the development of E.coli bacteria, which cause urinary tract infections and diarrhea during travels.

•          They reduce allergy symptoms

•          They improve the appearance of the skin.

•          They contribute to digestion by producing some necessary enzymes in the digestive tract. They are effective in facilitating lactose and protein digestion.

Apart from these benefits, kefir has a low lactose content. Since most of the lactose in milk turns into lactic acid as a result of fermentation, those with lactose intolerance can easily consume kefir.

You can easily consume plain kefir by adding a portion of fresh fruit to your snacks during the day.
