Breast reduction surgery is a functionally necessary procedure as well as aesthetic concern. In women with large breasts; They experience many problems such as neck and back pain, itching under and between the breasts, rash, numbness in the arms, difficulty in breathing, and limitation of movement. In addition, they encounter problems such as social and psychological problems and difficulty in choosing clothes. Breast enlargement can occur in older ages as well as in young girls. Breast size may be due to hormonal reasons, some diseases or genetic predisposition. In addition to these, existing problems related to pregnancy and breastfeeding progress over time.

BEFORE SURGERY

In the examination of the patient, the size of the breasts and, accordingly, which surgery technique will be used. It is decided what the new breast size will be according to the patient's wishes. The course of the surgery, the technique to be used and the condition of the scars that will be left are explained to the patient. The surgery is performed under general anesthesia, and appropriate blood tests are performed. If necessary, mammography and breast ultrasound are performed.

SURGERY

The purpose of the surgery is to remove excess breast tissue and skin, to bring the breast to a size suitable for body size, and to have a nipple. It is taken to the necessary place and the breast is rehabilitated. No matter which technique is used, a scar remains around the nipple and extending downwards. In the inverted T technique, which is preferred for extremely large breasts, a scar in the form of a straight line is left in the lower breast fold. The surgery takes approximately 3 hours, a drain is placed in both breasts, and these drains are usually removed on the 2nd day. In this procedure, the milk ducts are protected and there is no problem with breastfeeding or nipple sensation. However, in oversized and elderly patients, a method called free niple can be used to reduce surgery time and risks. In this procedure, the nipple is removed and placed back where it should be as a graft, causing damage to the milk ducts and sensory nerves.

AFTER THE SURGERY

After the surgery, you will be hospitalized for 2 nights. is necessary. Daily activities can be started after 3-4 days, and you can return to work after 1 week. It is recommended to use a special sports bra for 10-15 days after the surgery. Scars on the breast develop over time decreases in ris. Although it varies depending on the person's wound healing and surgery technique, all scars are planned to remain within the bra. Cream and medication are recommended to reduce surgical scars. In the first months after breast reduction surgery, there may be mild pain due to the healing process or rare regional swelling due to fat necrosis, which will disappear on its own. Breast reduction surgery has no relation with the occurrence of breast cancer.
