All of the pressure sores, diabetic foot wounds, post-accident wounds and chronic ulcers that occur in bedridden patients are closed with appropriate wound care and tissue transfer. A tumor formation may also underlie wounds that have been present for a long time. Wounds may occur due to skin cancer. These must be evaluated and the wounds must be closed as soon as possible. We have developed many methods that enable the closure of these wounds and have been published in the literature.
Pressure Sores
They occur as a result of long-term lying and sitting. Since these patients usually have a sensory deficit, they do not feel any discomfort in the initial stages of wound formation. Diabetic, elderly and paralyzed people are usually in this situation. Relatives of such patients should help them change positions every hour. First, a rash occurs. If the position is not changed at this stage, the area turns into a wound. These wounds generally occur on the coccyx, which we call the sacrum, and the sitting bone, which we call the ischium. After this stage, wounds can be closed by surgery using dressing therapy or tissue transfer methods. Patients who have lived with wounds for years can get rid of this problem with a one-hour surgery.
Diabetic Foot Wounds
Wound healing is impaired in diabetic patients. In these people whose blood sugar cannot be controlled, it is not possible to transport blood and oxygen to the tissues by many physiological mechanisms. Since tissue nutrition is impaired, wounds occur, especially on the feet. We can overcome the events with good care and dressing treatment before or immediately after the wound occurs. However, in advanced wounds, surgery is required as a result of occlusion of the vessels. All these problems arise in elderly people when inactivity and inability to care for themselves due to progressive disease are added. It is always necessary to overcome these problems with early diagnosis and early treatment before the wounds become too advanced.
