Psychological Well-Being and Personality Development

Psychological well-being means a structure in which a person is in harmony with the society he lives in and feels whole with all its good and bad aspects. The basic building blocks of psychological well-being are based on the relationship established with the mother and or the primary caregiver. Disruptions during this period will lead to serious negativities in the development of personality. The baby who goes through this period healthy will continue with the father and take the second step. The father's supportive and encouraging approach is valuable here. It will enable the child to become self-confident, confident in his decisions and courageous in his initiatives in the future. It will be the last supportive environment in terms of personality development. We are especially talking about the period when the family is gradually replaced by school, teachers and friends. The reactions of the social environment are especially important for a person to socialize and balance himself.

Human development continues until the end of his life. Naturally, the pace of development in the early periods differs from the middle and late periods. The attitude of the person's parents and social environment affect this. For example, in a war environment or marital crisis, the individual does not receive adequate support. This situation will cause the individual to feel inadequacy, helplessness and worthlessness.

Education should support personality development, especially in kindergarten and primary school age. This will be possible with an education system in which the student can express himself easily, his individual characteristics are taken into account, and cultural structures are transferred through role model methods. Educational environments where academic skills are interpreted as the only way to be good will only turn into a negative experience where the person experiences performance anxiety and gradually moves away. In particular, such negative attitudes of families will only mean that the person will be crushed between the stones of this system.

It is valuable for a person to be able to express himself. It is necessary for a person to experience the feeling of understanding and to symbolize thoughts and convey them to another person in order to regulate himself. People who are allowed to express themselves solve their problems easily and healthily. They can produce alternatives, but they are suppressed. Individuals growing up in mature societies resort to violence because they cannot express what they feel. The events occurring in our society can be interpreted in this direction. They resort to more primitive solution methods.

Violence can sometimes resemble a spiral. It is possible to multiply these examples: mother to child, spouse to spouse, driver to pedestrian in traffic, teacher to student at school, parent to teacher, administrator to employee, customer to workplace, producer to consumer.

Just thinking about physical violence will not be enough. verbal violence, psychological violence, we hope to convey these in our other article.
