It develops suddenly. Within 5 minutes, cells in the brain area with vascular occlusion die and cannot function; But the shocked cells around the necrotic core area try to survive. This region is called "penumbra" and we try to save this region, because this region will take over the missing task as much as possible in the future. Generally, either the right or left side of patients is affected. There is no treatment with surgery. However, if a large amount of edema occurs in the brain, a craniotomy is performed and the skull is opened and the brain pressure is reduced in this way and the patient is put to sleep in intensive care for a few days. It is vital to transport the paralyzed patient to the hospital within the first 3 hours.
Patients may have the following complaints: :
–Slipping and numbness in the face and mouth
– Inability to hold arms and legs, weakness, numbness
– Double vision, blurred vision or inability to see at all
– Speech disorder (lisping, speaking drunkenly, speaking nonsense, repetitively or not being able to speak at all)
– State of not understanding what is said
– Incontinence of urine and feces
– Difficulty in swallowing
– Drowsiness (inability to wake up)
– Coma (vegetative state)
– Epileptic (epilepsy) seizure;
The causes of stroke are various:
– Atherosclerosis (obstruction, narrowing, calcification) in the brain and neck vessels
– This condition can be detected by brain and neck MRI and neck carotid and vertebral doppler.
– Disruption in heart rhythm causes atrial fibrillation, block, stutter, fast and irregular work, and generally a feeling of palpitation.< br /> – In case of calcification in the heart valve or a clot in the heart, an ECHO is required.
– The risk of stroke increases after heart valve and Bypass surgeries.
– High cholesterol or triglyceride (fat) in the blood
– Smoking
– Alcohol
–Some vasculitis (vascular rheumatism) in young patients e genetic problems (such as blood diseases)
2 – Bleeding in the brain
It occurs suddenly. Similar events occur in cases of vascular occlusion. Edema (swelling) may develop in the brain. The patient may have an epileptic seizure.
Bleeding may occur for the following reasons:
1 – Aneurysm (bubble) or ( vascular ball) arteriovenous malformation
2 – Bleeding due to hypertension
3 – Bleeding between the brain membranes (Usually develops due to head impacts, sometimes occurs spontaneously)
4 – Vasculitis (vascular rheumatism)
In these patients, the vessels cannot function normally and bleeding occurs because they rupture easily. Some of these bleedings are treated surgically by neurosurgeons. Some have no surgical treatment and no surgery is performed. The patient is tried to be treated with medications. The risk of death is high.
To avoid these dramatic situations that lead to disability and death described above, have neurological check-ups. Especially if you have heart, hypertension and diabetes, get your check-ups in the neurology department as soon as possible. Early precautions can prevent many bad consequences.
