Fire in Children

With the arrival of autumn and the opening of schools, especially upper respiratory tract diseases began. Feverish nights gradually began to show up in homes with children.

I always share with my patients that we should not be afraid of fire, that we defeat the microbes that will harm our body thanks to fire, and that we should not immediately seek medication at every fever level. I would like to share the answers to some of their questions here.

1-Which body temperature is Fever?

2-With which device should we measure Fever?

3-This I measured it from here with this device, what does this mean? such as…

If we list the measurement sites;

In the mouth (oral),

Armpit (axillary),

From the buttock (rectal). ,

We see that measurements can be made from different body parts such as from the forehead (temporal artery),

From inside the ear (from the tympanic membrane)... It is also possible to convert them to each other.

Let me write the formula:

For example, rectal measurement = ear measurement and if this value is above 38 °C, FEVER It means there is strong> corresponds to this value.

Although rectal or ear measurement does not give our exact internal temperature, it shows the closest temperatures.

I think the most important behavior is to have one of these devices and use it repeatedly and repeatedly every time the child has a fever. not measuring from different places; On the contrary, it is to take regular and accurate measurements with whatever device we have chosen and share them with your doctor.

If your baby is in the first 6 months, the most accurate measurement is from the butt or armpit. I do not recommend applying a degree to the buttocks of the babies I follow, there are risks. You can measure it under the armpit with a digital thermometer. When measuring from here, check that the measuring tip is firmly placed in the armpit cavity and if the armpit is sweaty, be sure to wipe it off.

You can easily take measurements from the ear and armpit until the age of 4. When taking measurements from the ear, be careful not to take measurements from the ear lying on it, as this may cause you to detect a false high fever. In some articles, infections in the middle ear and earwax in the external auditory canal are reported. It has been stated that forward measurements may also cause incorrect measurements.

After the age of 4, you can also take oral measurements with degrees, as the child will know not to damage the object he puts in his mouth. It is recommended that oral measurements be taken 15 to 30 minutes after eating or drinking for accurate results.

The hypothalamus regulates the body temperature and it is not constant during the day, for example, after meals, after exercise, in the evening, during ovulation in women, when wearing extra It can be measured more than normal due to clothes, high room temperature, and the effect of some medications.

I wish you a fever-free autumn and winter.

With love.
