Coronavirus: Oral and Dental Health During Quarantine Days

Within the scope of the protective measures taken due to the Covid-19 Pandemic, which has affected the whole world, postponing non-urgent dental treatments is extremely important for both the patient and the risk of cross-infection.

Until the epidemic is completely taken under control. Severe toothache caused by caries, pain caused by wisdom teeth, pain and infection of areas where teeth have been extracted, intraoral and extraoral abscesses, tooth fractures causing pain, tooth luxation and avulsions, jaw-facial region fractures, intraoral bleeding, radiotherapy and chemotherapy. All treatments should be postponed except for emergency treatments of patients undergoing surgery, consultation patients, stitch removal, temporary restoration loss or fracture, jaw joint luxation and severe pain, biopsy, and soft tissue trauma and pain resulting from breakage of orthodontic brackets and wires.

In these days when it is not necessary to consult a physician except for emergency treatments, oral and dental care at home becomes extra important.

Clean the teeth, gums, inside of the cheeks and the tongue at least twice a day, in the morning and at night before going to bed. Brushing for minutes.

Using dental floss once a day, especially before going to bed at night.

Reducing food consumption that causes discoloration, such as excessive tea and coffee consumption.

Staying away from acidic and sugary foods as much as possible (as they trigger pain and decay formation)

Excessive mouth opening that will strain the jaw joints Avoiding actions such as yawning, eating extremely hard foods that will strain weak teeth, and chewing excessive gum.

For those who use removable dentures (palates), remove the dentures at night and pay extra attention to the cleaning of the dentures.

These measures will help prevent tooth and gum diseases and at least control the existing problem.

Hope to see you in healthy days...
