Bruxism is the clenching of teeth, usually caused by uninhibited jaw movements during sleep. This is popularly defined as teeth grinding. The most important cause of this disorder is stress.
How can it be understood that you have bruxism?
-Has anyone in your family told you that you grind your teeth while sleeping?
-Is there pain in the neck and shoulder area?
-Are there clicking sounds coming from the joints?
-Is there a feeling of pain and fatigue in the jaw joint, facial muscles and ears after sleeping in the morning?
-Is there a sensitivity problem in the teeth?
If you answer yes to a few of these questions, you may be gritting your teeth. It would be beneficial for you to be examined by your dentist.
Symptoms of Bruxism
*unreasonable fractures in the filling
*pain in the temples in the morning
*plate-shaped flattening on the tooth surfaces
*sensitivity
*wear on tooth surfaces
*discomfort in jaw joints
*headache and earaches
These are just a few of the effects of bruxism.
Treatment
In addition to treating the factor, ;
-drug treatments (muscle relaxants, etc.)
-some physical therapy applications
-personal night plates (transparent plates)
-are treatments in which botox is applied to the chewing muscle.
HOW IS THE NIGHT PLATE USED IN THE TREATMENT OF BRUXISM APPLIED?
Night plate application, which is a treatment method used to eliminate pain and prevent permanent damage to the teeth and jaw joint, is performed by the dentist. It is placed between the upper and lower teeth to prevent the teeth from coming into contact with each other during sleep. Night protective plates are worn by patients every night and monitored regularly. If patients fail to use it, the muscles contract again and the disease returns to its previous state. However, their use alone may not be sufficient. Additionally, additional treatments may be required.
