Voice therapy is a treatment method used to change behaviors that contribute to voice disorders that somehow limit normal and healthy voice use. Behaviors that lead to hoarseness are changed in two basic ways: 1. Very strict application of vocal health principles. 2. Teaching and applying treatment exercise techniques that positively change the vibration of the vocal cords and the resonance of the vocal tract.
How is voice therapy applied?
Creating vocal health and eliminating both environmental and behavioral factors that damage the voice. It may be possible by removing it. In voice therapy, many different exercises such as posture adjustments, effective breathing techniques, special relaxation exercises for the throat and neck, exercises that provide more effective and accurate vibration of the vocal cords, exercises for more effective use of the lips, chin and tongue, and resonance exercises are applied to help the person produce a healthier voice. While voice therapy is used as a stand-alone treatment method in some diseases, in some cases it is used together with drug therapy or before surgical treatment. It can also be applied afterwards. There is no single type of voice therapy method, therapies are tailored to the patient's needs. Therefore, it is very important to determine the underlying cause of the voice problem before starting voice therapy. For this purpose, it is necessary to perform voice analysis and evaluate the vocal cords with laryngostroboscopy. The findings obtained should be evaluated together with the ear, nose and throat specialist and the language and speech therapist, and the therapy goals should be determined.
What is the duration of voice therapy?
Sound therapy is applied one-on-one, in 40-50 minute sessions once a week. Therapy duration varies depending on the patient and the type of voice problem.
