Beware of Headaches and Neck Pains During Ramadan

Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Specialist Dr. Gamze Yılmaz Yanartaş said that we should not sit directly in front of the air conditioner while operating it, and that we should not run the air conditioner towards our eyes, mouth, nose and chest area.

During Ramadan, care should be taken to avoid some muscle and skeletal system pain, especially head and neck pain. Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Specialist Dr. gives information about what is needed. Gamze Yılmaz Yanartaş stated that some pain is experienced due to Ramadan falling in the summer months and being hungry and thirsty for a long time, and said: "It is possible to have a comfortable Ramadan month with very simple measures in order to improve the quality of our lives and minimize them during Ramadan. Headaches and neck pains are common conditions that we encounter during Ramadan. "We think that it will especially trigger tension-type headaches, some pain caused by hypoglycemia, hypotensive headaches caused by fluctuations in blood pressure, and head, neck, muscle and skeletal system pain," he said. DO NOT STAND DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF THE AIR CONDITIONER

Dr. states that the active operation of air conditioners increases some muscle stiffness due to the hot summer months and the long fasting period. Yanartaş said, “To pay attention to these, we need to eat right, not sit directly in front of the air conditioner while operating it, not run the air conditioner towards our eyes, mouth, nose and chest area, and not sit directly under it. "If we pay attention to all these, we can have a more comfortable Ramadan," he said.

Long-term Emphasizing that hypoglycemia and changes in blood pressure due to hunger cause headaches and neck pains, Dr. Yanartaş,“In order to prevent this situation from occurring, we need to pay particular attention to our nutrition. As soon as we break the fast during Ramadan, we should not fill our stomachs immediately, stay away from pastry foods and pay attention to the consumption of fruits, vegetables and water. Since the kidneys work less due to lack of water intake during Ramadan, some metabolic waste accumulates in the body, causing some muscle and skeletal system pain. Because of this "When we are not fasting, if possible, we need to supplement thirst by drinking plenty of water, drink fruit juice, and stay away from ready-made foods and heavy foods such as pita bread," he said.

  • AFTER IFTAR 40 TAKE A MINUTE WALK

Dr. noted that instead of filling our stomachs at once, it should be balanced with two main meals or two snacks. Yanartaş,“It would be very appropriate for us to take forty-minute walks, especially about an hour after breaking the fast. We should not suddenly do heavy exercise or heavy sports during Ramadan. This is very important for our cardiovascular health. If we talk about musculoskeletal problems, since we will have a very hot month, paying attention to air conditioning will allow us to have a more comfortable Ramadan,” he said.
