1) How is the week of pregnancy calculated?
The first question that comes to the minds of parents who are excited to hold their babies is when their babies will be born. Calculating the date when the baby will be born is called pregnancy week calculation. Many different methods are followed in this regard. However, many times, mothers and fathers cannot calculate the pregnancy week or it is calculated incorrectly. The reason for this is that the pregnancy week is calculated not by the day of fertilization, but by looking at the first day of the last menstrual period.
The time when pregnancy, that is, fertilization, occurs is approximately 15 days after the last menstrual date. However, when the week of pregnancy is calculated, it is calculated by taking into account the menstrual date before this date, not this date.
As long as there is no pregnancy-related condition, gynecologists calculate the week of pregnancy with a very simple formula. It is calculated
2) How is the week of pregnancy calculated with the Negele method?
The day the expectant mother will hold her baby is calculated with a system called the "Negele method". . In this method, the first day of the last menstrual period is taken into account and 7 days are added to this day to go back 3 months.
Let's give a short and simple example to help you understand this better; Let's assume that the first day of an expectant mother's last menstrual period is November 21, 2014. When 7 days are added to November 21, the date is November 28, 2014. When we go back 3 months from November, the result is August. When one year is added to 2014, the baby's estimated birth date is revealed: 28 August 2015
21 November + 7 = 28 November
11. month (November) – 3 = 8th month (August)
2014 + 1 year=2015
RESULT: 28.8.2015
But routine menstruation or if the expectant mother's ovulation date changes within that month, it may cause the week of pregnancy to not match the actual birth date of the baby, that is, the week of pregnancy to be calculated incorrectly. In this case, ultrasound measurements to be performed in the first 3 months are examined and taken into account. The last menstrual period and estimated date of birth are determined again and follow-ups are made as a result of this date.
3) How many months pregnant am I?
The majority of pregnant women still wonder "how many months" they are, even though they have calculated the week of pregnancy or have been told by their doctor. How many months pregnant am I? How many months have passed? How many months have I entered? How many months left? In fact, the incompatibility and confusion that occurs between these weeks and months occur because 1 month is not exactly 4 weeks.
1 month lasts approximately 4 weeks and 3 days. What is really important here is the week account, not the month account. The pregnancy period is considered to be 40 weeks. In order not to cause confusion on this issue, if we talk about the months and weeks that doctors accept approximately;
4 or 5 weeks of pregnancy are called 1 month.
When 8 or 9 weeks are over, 2 months are over
When 12 or 13 weeks are over, 3 months are over
When 16 or 17 weeks are over, 4 months are over
When 20 or 21 weeks are over, 5 months are over
When 24 or 25 weeks are over, 6 months are over
/> When 28 or 29 weeks are over, 7 months are over.
When 32 or 33 weeks are over, 8 months are over.
When 36 weeks are over, 9 months are over and the last month is entered. (In this case, birth takes like 10 months, not 9 months)
When 40 weeks are over –> 9 months and 10 days, that is, a total of 280 days have been completed. This turns out to be 40 weeks.
To express it again, do not confuse yourself with questions such as which month ended and which month I entered. In this case, the most important thing is the week calculation, not the month calculation. The reason for this is that during the pregnancy period, everything is done and calculated according to the weeks.
The pregnancy period is considered to be 40 weeks in total. Most births are completed between 38 and 40 weeks. In people whose due date is late, birth occurs within 41 weeks. When these are calculated, they are calculated based on the first day of your last menstrual period.
