First of all, we need to know that not every wisdom tooth will be removed by surgery. Extraction of wisdom teeth can also be done as normal tooth extraction, depending on the situation. However, there is not a big difference between what to pay attention to after both normal and surgical shots. If we were to list the things our patients should do after the procedure:
-
The tampons bitten by the patients after the procedure will be thrown away after 30 minutes and no other tampon will be replaced.
-
After the extraction, bleeding may occur in the form of leakage from the extraction site and may continue for 6-24 hours. Even if bleeding occurs in the first 24 hours, spitting should not be done, the wound area should not be sucked and mouth rinsing should not be done.
-
In cases where bleeding lasts longer than 48 hours, the physician should be informed.
-
Food should not be eaten until the numbness subsides after the extraction. Drowsiness will disappear in approximately 3.4 hours.
-
During the first 24 hours, hot food and hot drinks should not be consumed, hot showers should not be taken, or walking in hot weather should not be avoided.
-
You should eat warm and soft foods for the first 24 hours.
-
Since smoking and alcohol will negatively affect wound healing, they should not be consumed for 72 hours (3 days).
-
Normal oral care procedures (brushing teeth, mouthwash) can be started 24 hours after tooth extraction.
-
If stitches were placed after extraction, lips and cheeks. You should not try to look at that area by pulling. It may cause the stitches to break and the wound to heal late.
-
If the extraction procedure is performed surgically, especially, facial swelling, bruising, difficulty in opening the mouth and pain may occur. Especially to prevent swelling, cold should be applied externally to the extraction area at 5-minute intervals for the first 24 hours. Bloating will continue to increase for the first 3 days. It will gradually decrease after the 3rd day.
-
Sleeping on a high pillow and not lying on the extraction area for the first 24 hours will help reduce the pain.
-
If there are medications prescribed by the physician, they should be used regularly and completely.
-
If you have pain and swelling lasting longer than 7 days, 4 If there is bleeding lasting more than 8 hours, bad breath or bad taste, a physician should be consulted.
-
If stitches have been placed, the stitches must be removed after 7-10 days.
