Wrong Shoe Choice Causes Knee Pain

We hear that many people around us complain about knee complaints. These complaints cover not only athletes but also a wide range of people, from housewives to office workers. Kiss. Dr. Yılmaz Şahin gave information about front knee pain, diagnosis and treatment;

''Anterior knee pain actually constitutes an important part of knee complaints. Especially in athletes, an excessive load is placed on the kneecap. This overload puts excessive strain on the cartilage and bone beneath the kneecap and causes pain. However, it is not necessary to be an athlete to have these findings. This type of pain is seen in a wide range of people, from housewives to office workers. Patients experience pain when going up and down stairs, when squatting or when sitting in a bent knee position for a long time. If one day you start to have pain in the above positions, stop doing the movement that caused it, rest, take a simple painkiller and make ice. If it does not go away within 1-2 days and if it recurs, consult an orthopedist experienced in knees.

For diagnosis; After the patient history and examination, various radiological examinations are required to determine the causes and severity of anterior knee pain.

Treatment; It is shaped according to the cause of anterior knee pain. For tendon, injury, overload-training-related anterior knee pain, rest-ice-elastic bandage-holding up is primarily applied. Afterwards, exercises are done.

Anterior knee pain due to malposition of the kneecap has a longer and more difficult process. The primary treatment is physiotherapy and exercise therapy. "Surgical treatment options come to the fore in cases that do not respond to physiotherapy after 3 months," he said.

Talking about what should be done in daily life to protect against front knee pain, Op. Dr. Yılmaz Şahin;

''First of all, stay in shape, maintain your general body condition, not being overweight ensures that the loads on the knees are not excessive. For this, exercise regularly. Warm up for 5 minutes before exercise and exercise with appropriate shoes. Do stretching exercises for the muscles around the knee. Gradually increase your pace; sudden increase in exercise intensity Do not increase excessively. Stay away from exercises that put excessive stress on your knee. The most important cause of arthritis in the knee area is genetic predisposition, excess weight and bad and careless activity. Foot and ankle problems may arise as a result of occupational groups that lift the load with their knees, unconsciously doing sports without warming up, and using the wrong shoes for a long time. Calcification is seen on the inner part of the knee or on the kneecap. As a result of arthritis in the knee area, after a while it becomes difficult for the patient to go up and down stairs and sit down and stand up. Mobility decreases due to so-called arthritis. Due to this problem, patients are disturbed by the crackling sound coming from their joints. Sudden falls that occur after knee locking due to meniscus tear or arthritis are the cause of hip fractures. "Hip fractures are a life-threatening injury in elderly patients," he said.
