I am special

It is quite nice for a healthy individual to think that he is "special" and it is an indication that he is at peace with himself. Indeed, it is accepted that every human child is “innocent, pure and special”, especially during childhood.

“I am special!” If the thought is exaggerated (overvalued idea), it may cause erroneous perceptions and evaluations in the person. The reality overlooked by the student who believes, "My teacher is in love with me, he smiles at me, he recently said "you are precious to me" in class, he probably meant me" is that the teacher is actually friendly to all his students and values them all. The teacher's behavior is not personal and is an example of good behavior as required by his profession.

The next step in the same erroneous evaluation is that it becomes an "obsession", the student does not listen to the lesson and starts constantly thinking about his own fictions about the teacher. The last stop is the "erotomanic delusion (paranoia, delusion)" dimension and a pathological level of thought is reached (delirium is an unchangeable thought, erotomanic type: the delusion that the other person is in love with himself).

"Everyone at my workplace values me, always. They ask for help from me, I think they cannot do anything without me. In the workplace, all employees actually value each other and ask for help from each other in teamwork. As the worker's thinking progresses from a healthy level to a morbid level, first the exaggerated idea of "this place would go bankrupt without me, they need me", and then the megalomaniacal delusion (grandiosity type: delusion of grandeur) is seen and the person begins to say "I feed all the people working here, I am actually someone who will be the head of state".

The fact that the patient who thinks, "The doctor was very harsh on me, he definitely hated me, he didn't like me" is unaware of is that the doctor has a distant and authoritarian nature towards each of his patients. After all, there is no specific approach only for that patient. If, in this process, the person increases the amount of valuing his/her thoughts, he/she will first experience exaggerated thoughts such as "If I fall into the hands of this doctor, he/she may harm me" and then persistent delusion (persecution). It reaches morbid thinking at the level of fusion type: delusion of being harmed).

Being measured in daily life and saying "I am special!" Meanwhile, not moving away from reality (we can ask ourselves, "Is the behavior I encounter only towards me? Is it towards everyone?") will help us stay at a healthy level.
