Anal warts are superficial protrusions that can be felt in the form of skin tags, usually located around the anus and genitals. The cause of anal wart is the infectious virus called Human Papilloma Virus. Although it is seen in many parts of the body, the ones that appear around the anus and genitals are generally HPV-6, HPV-11, HPV-16 and HPV-18 types.

HPV types that cause cancer are often HPV-16 and HPV-18.

The disease can spread sexually. However, it can also spread through direct contact and touching from places such as unclean toilets. For this reason, it would be wrong to think that only the sexual way causes patients to contract anal warts. The biggest reason why patients usually present with advanced anal warts is that they avoid treatment, thinking that the disease can only be transmitted sexually, as we mentioned.

The diagnosis of anal warts can usually be made by physical examination. Whether there are warts on the inner surface of the anal canal is an issue that should be investigated in disease diagnosis and treatment planning. Since it is a disease that can cause anal cancer on the inner surface of the anus, the disease should not be treated by only looking at the area around the anus.

After infection, genital warts can remain silent in the body for many years. Genital warts may not occur in everyone with Human Papilloma Virus (HPV). In fact, in many people, Human Papilloma Virus is neutralized by the defense system.

Although products such as padophilin, acetic acid or nitric acid, which are superficial cream drugs, can be used in the treatment of the disease. It is not preferred because it has a high probability of recurrence.

With the help of the active ingredient drug called imiquimod, patients can be treated at home. It may be possible for them to receive treatment. However, the drug should be used with caution due to its side effects.

Thanks to laser treatment, which is a technological method, it can be effective in scattered and widespread anal warts. The most commonly used method by surgeons is excision with cautery, which is the complete removal of the wart including its base. In advanced and relapsed patients, it is possible to prevent the disease through oral Fluoro-uracil and interferon treatment.

The first thing to know about anal wart disease and treatment is that the disease may recur. Therefore, it is important to follow up with frequent check-ups to see if there is complete recovery. Possible minor recurrences can be prevented with simple procedures after strict follow-up, and thus it is possible for patients to get rid of anal wart disease.
