This method is still in the experimental phase and this issue should be explained well to patients. It is generally applied to people whose Body Mass Index (BMI) is below 30 and who have tried diets before without success. This method is not sufficient for those whose BMI is high enough to be within the surgery limits. It is applied endoscopically, there is no need for general anesthesia. It takes approximately half an hour under light sedation and ends in an hour with half an hour of rest, and you can return to daily life immediately.
Botox is used in many areas, especially plastic surgery, some muscle diseases, anal fissure and achalasia. Botox creates a partial paralysis in the muscle to which it is applied, resulting in a spasm. In this method, botox is injected through an endoscope into the areas close to the stomach exit and the upper areas where the appetite hormone is secreted more. Thus, gastric emptying is both prolonged and the secretion of the appetite hormone is reduced.
With this procedure, the patient must continue diet and exercise. The amount of weight loss with this method is limited and is still in the development stage.
GASTRACTIVE BALLOON
It is not a surgical intervention, but a procedure performed endoscopically. A balloon placed in the stomach creates a feeling of fullness in the patient, making him think he has eaten. There are ones that are inflated with air or water, and ones that are 6 months old or one year old. The procedure takes approximately 20 minutes and is completed in an hour, including rest. The patient can return to daily life immediately.
This procedure does not require anesthesia and a balloon is placed in the stomach via endoscopy under light sedation. The balloon is inflated to around 400-700 cc. There may be some pain and nausea at first. The patient should continue dieting and exercising as long as the balloon is in place, and should continue these after the balloon is removed, otherwise he will gain back the weight he lost.
TUBE STOMACH (STOMACH REDUCTION)
The stomach is cut and separated with special tools that both stap and cut from bottom to top. Approximately 80% of the stomach is removed. Since we remove the area where the hormones responsible for appetite are secreted in this surgery, patients have no appetite, and even if they want to eat, they can only eat very little because the stomach is very narrow. It takes less time than other surgeries, vitamin and mineral support is given for about 6 months. Expansion in the stomach in the long term If the condition occurs or the patient gains weight, it can be converted to gastric bypass or other methods. After the surgery, patients have the chance to get rid of their excess weight and many diseases such as hypertension, diabetes and sleep apnea.
GASMA BYPASS
It is one of the oldest obesity surgeries. . In this surgery, a small stomach is left and this small stomach is connected to a small intestine far below. It is a surgery that takes a little longer. Thus, even if patients eat little or a lot, the food is expelled without being digested. This surgery has a blood sugar correcting effect as well as weight loss. However, after this surgery, patients must take vitamin and mineral supplements for life.
Apart from these, there are other surgical methods that reduce the stomach volume or connect it to the intestine.
