The disease, which can be seen in any area where hair follicles are located, often occurs in the coccyx and is three times more common in men under the age of 40 than in women. What causes Pilonidal Sinus?

Although the cause of the disease is not known for certain, it is mostly accepted. According to the opinion, the disease occurs when the hairs penetrating under the skin first form a cyst, then the skin perceives these hairs as foreign objects and the cyst becomes infected.

Working in jobs that involve sitting for long periods of time, wearing tight-fitting clothes. Situations such as wearing heavy clothing, a sedentary lifestyle, having an excessively hairy body structure, and not paying attention to personal hygiene constitute the basis for the emergence of ingrown hairs.

What are the symptoms of the disease?

Ingrown hairs first manifest themselves. It manifests itself as abscess and discharge. Patients often consult a physician with complaints such as discharge, bleeding, itching and pain in the coccyx. However, the disease can sometimes manifest as an abscess if the cyst becomes infected and cannot drain on its own. This condition, also called acute pilonidal abscess, requires urgent drainage and requires surgical intervention.
