Knee Area Fractures (Patella Fractures)

Knee region fractures: Patella is the kneecap bone. Patella fractures require treatment because they are intra-articular and cause deterioration of the extension (keeping straight) function of the knee. Fractures of the patella (kneecap fractures): It can be caused by direct traumas such as falling on the knee, a gunshot injury or hitting the glove box in an in-vehicle accident.

How are patella fractures treated?

Cases of patella fractures that do not show separation in the radiographs taken and that raise the leg straight without bending the knee can be treated with a brace or plaster. In patients with patellar fractures who cannot raise their legs by keeping their knee straight, surgical treatment is performed with wire and thin nails, which we call stretching wire. The primary accompanying pathology is peroneal nerve lesion. All knee dislocations have anterior cruciate ligament rupture. Depending on the severity of the injury, posterior cruciate ligament rupture may develop. In dislocation, the deformity of the knee is seen very strikingly.
When dislocation findings are detected, reduction operation should be performed under anesthesia urgently.
