Whose Concern Is the Exam?

Dear parents, dear readers;

I will briefly tell you about myself and what we do at our school, and as the title suggests, I will present an article based on test anxiety.

I would like to express that we focus on this issue, especially in our interviews (mostly in senior grades). . In our meetings with young people, we examine together as much as possible what can be done. However, the point I want to touch upon here and make you realize is, "Is the exam a concern for the young person, the family, or both parties?" In my humble experience, what I have observed generally, but not for every family, is that families are more worried about the exams of young people than the young people. If we think about whether there is any harm here, it would be useful to point out this. Anxiety is contagious, just like a virus or cold or flu. Therefore, I think we, as parents, should control our anxiety level regarding the exams they will take. Another point that I think we need to check is how we reflect our concerns and perspectives on the exam. Some parents, especially those with high levels of anxiety, display angry, tense, angry, irritable, intolerant and impatient approaches towards their children. As such, the young person's perception of the exam and his/her expectations regarding the post-exam processes are negatively affected.

I have a request from you, our valued readers, regarding this issue. I would like to express that I totally understand that you are worried, that you want your children to reach good places, and that you are trying to build a comfortable future for them. I would like to point out that if we can keep all these factors in a calm, compassionate, trusting and understanding climate in the way we reflect our anxiety, the individual who will take the exam will be able to perform at a higher level, both more motivated and more confident. Otherwise, polarizations at home, mutual communication conflicts, lying behavior, etc. I regret to observe that negativities have occurred.

As I end my article, I wish each of you healthy, happy and successful days.
