I Didn't Read the Book, I Watched the Movie

As a society, we have a big disease: We do not read books. Maybe this may be one of the cliché sentences lately, but this is exactly the situation. In the depths of books, in the vaults between the pages, we are deprived of the nature of books that introduces people to themselves and helps them find themselves. We got used to digital. It is easy for us to press the remote control, turn on a movie, stare at the screen and get hypnotized. It is very relaxing to grab the laptop and switch from TV series to TV series while lying on our bed. Or we can open the Pubg game on our phone and have a pleasant time by leaving all our life energy and pleasure to the phone keys until the morning... (Of course, there are many TV series, movies and games that add a lot to us and that we enjoy. However, it is important to establish the balance. Ignore what books add. without.)

There is a research conducted between books and the human brain. It is about the activities that occur in the human brain while reading a story. This study provides a lot of data about how our brain creates our sense of self. For example; When the location of the character in the book changes ("He went from home to the street"), the activity of the regions of the brain that control spatial orientation and perception also increases. In another case e.g. ("He picked up the pencil"), activity in the areas of the brain that control grasping movements also increases. In addition, as a result of changes in the character's purpose, the part of the brain that performs planned and deliberate actions is activated.

.

In other words, we develop our brain precisely by 'IMAGINING'. We interact very strongly with the story in the book and our mind imitates every situation it encounters. Afterwards, our brain intertwines these newly encountered situations with the knowledge and experience in our own lives and creates a mental synthesis.

As a result, reading a book; It increases the electrical connections that transmit information in our brain and opens new electrical channels. It adds a new dimension to our perspective on the world. It enables us to look at the world more comprehensively, richer and more sensitively. It makes it easier for us to understand the inner world of others more deeply. It makes you feel like seeing through his eyes, hearing from his ears, and tasting what he tastes. In other words, a high level of 'EMPATHY'. It does much more than the virtual world offered by the internet.

Finally, It must be said that; Yes, reading books is more difficult than watching movies and TV series or playing online games. Because it requires much more information processing, it requires us to activate our brain more. However, the books we touch with our hands and feel with our fingers give us more vitality, more reality, more imagination and more depth. It gives us a perception that becomes layered and enriched page by page, as opposed to the distinctly single-layered lives offered by the virtual.
