What is Embryo Transfer? How is it done?

The last stage in IVF IVF method is embryo transfer. 1-2 of the best quality embryos selected from the developing embryos are left inside the mother's uterus and the embryos are expected to cling to the uterus (endometrium) to form a pregnancy.

How is Embryo Transfer Performed?

When deciding on which day the embryo transfer will be performed, different factors are considered; such as the woman's age, treatment history, number and quality of embryos. However, the embryo transfer process is usually 2-3. or on the 5th day.
Embryo transfer is an easy and painless procedure that does not require anesthesia, but some of our patients may prefer light sedation (light sleepiness).
Thanks to the ultrasound-guided transfer, it is possible to monitor the embryo's passage into the uterus. Transfer process; Since it is performed under observation with abdominal (abdominal) ultrasound, it is requested that the bladder be full during the procedure. For this reason, you will be asked to be cramped when you go for the transfer process.
During the procedure, your doctor first makes visible (visualizes) the uterine entrance called the cervix by using a vaginal instrument (speculum) and cleans the uterine entrance with a warm liquid.
At this time, the embryo/embryos selected in the embryology laboratory are taken into the appropriate medium and collected. The embryologist draws the embryos into the soft, long and thin transfer catheter made of silicone, with an injector attached to the tip, and prepares them for transfer. The doctor then passes the tip of the transfer catheter through the uterine entrance (cervix) and releases the embryos into the uterus (uterus).
Before the procedure, your embryologist will give you detailed information about your embryos. Even if you want, you can be given a picture of your embryos.
After the transfer, the patient is taken to his room after resting for 15-20 minutes and he is asked to rest for about 1-2 hours in his room.
After our nurses explain the issues that need attention, our patient is discharged and IVF process is completed. After that, 12 days are expected until the day of the pregnancy test.
