The gallbladder is a small, sac-like organ located just below the liver. It preserves bile (gall), a green-brown liquid produced by the liver. Bile helps digest fats and other substances. Bile contains wastes such as bile salt, cholesterol and bilirubin pigments. Gallstones occur when cholesterol or bile salts harden and form a stone-like substance. Gallstones are pebble-like, hard deposits in the gallbladder or bile ducts. Gallstones cause a blockage, leading to a serious infection in the bile duct, liver, or pancreas. Symptoms of a blocked bile duct are known as a gallbladder attack. In a typical gallbladder attack, there are gallbladder symptoms such as persistent pain in the right upper abdomen, pain below the right shoulder, fever, nausea, vomiting, jaundice, insomnia, belching and indigestion.
Risk factors of gallbladders: Gender, Age, obesity, rapid weight loss, pregnancy, hormone therapy, and birth control pills are all factors that increase serum triglyceride levels with Crohn's disease. In general, women have a higher risk of gallstones than men. The likelihood of developing gallstones increases with age. In addition, a diet containing fatty foods and low fiber contributes to the formation of gallstones. However, rapid weight loss and extremely low-calorie diets can disrupt bile chemistry, leading to the formation of gallstones. Certain changes in nutrition can help prevent gallstone symptoms.
