Airway (Trachea) Strictures and Tumors

Tracheal stenosis means stenosis in the windpipe. The main airway continues as a single extension before dividing into two bronchial structures leading to the right and left lung in the middle of the chest. If the stenosis is not diagnosed and treated at the right time, the trachea can become completely blocked over time, and the patient can only breathe by inserting a tube into the larynx called a tracheostomy or by applying bronchoscopic treatment.

Causes Tracheal Stenosis?

Tracheal stenosis can develop as a result of benign or malignant tumors. br>This situation may also lie in the background in patients who are treated for chronic asthma and shortness of breath.

How to Diagnose and Treat Tracheal Stenosis?

Computed tomography is performed if narrowing of the trachea is suspected.
The best way to show trachea diseases is bronchoscopic examination. In this way, the size and location of the disease can be clearly seen and the diagnosis can be made by biopsies to be taken.
In some cases, an operation is required for the disease that causes tracheal narrowing. In this operation, the area narrowed by the disease is removed and the intact ends of the airway are brought together and joined together.
