From the Window of Depression...

When I was tired of daily life, I lost my desire to move from one place to another in the house. While doing business was not difficult before, now I am afraid of doing business. I don't even want to take a bath. Every morning I wake up to darkness. My patience with my children is running out day by day due to the restlessness of not being able to sleep at night. When I cannot take care of them properly, I feel inadequate and worthless. The face I see in the mirror is pale, dark around the eyes, unhappy and hopeless...

Can someone remind me when I lost hope? What were the things I even enjoyed doing before? I can't remember... I've been forgetting a lot of things for a while. A few days ago, I had an accident in traffic again. I'm being careless. My wife and friends say I don't laugh. While they used to think that this might be a temporary situation, now I see that they are starting to worry. They said I could figure it out myself and maybe need a vacation, but it's so hard for me to go on vacation. I feel tired, I don't feel like it. I didn't tell anyone, but life seems meaningless these days. The idea of death seems closer than ever…
Most of us are familiar with the word “Depression”. Sometimes we get angry at our relatives and say "you are making me depressed", and sometimes when we feel hopeless we say "I am depressed". So what is depression disease? What symptoms need to be encountered to recognize depression? The most obvious point in the course of this common psychiatric disorder is that the person does not enjoy life as much as before and loses desire and interest in activities that he/she used to enjoy doing.

The sleep patterns of depressive patients are disrupted. They may have difficulty sleeping at night or experience drowsiness throughout the day. Along with sleep, appetite patterns are also disrupted. They may lose or gain significant weight in a short period of time. Their energy decreases, and any work that they could previously do comfortably and effortlessly begins to feel like a burden. They may experience distraction and complain about being forgetful. Sometimes their forgetfulness may increase so much that patients and their relatives may experience problems and worry due to this forgetfulness. Pessimism, unhappiness, hopelessness, change in patients' thoughts and feelings Incompetence and guilt prevail. The world becomes a meaningless place. Self-care has decreased. You may encounter a patient with depression wearing sloppy clothes and not bathing for days. One of the important points is that they have no expectations about the future. After this point, thoughts of death may begin in the patient. As a result of all these, the person becomes unable to continue his family, work and social life. Depression must be distinguished from situations that every person encounters, such as the mourning reaction or sadness experienced after the loss of a loved one. Because, unlike these conditions, depression involves feelings such as loss of self-confidence and hopelessness about the future. Depression is the leading disease that causes disability all over the world. It should not be late for the treatment of this common disease. When a diagnosis of depression is made, it should not be forgotten that the use of antidepressants is lifesaving if psychotherapy alone is not sufficient for treatment. The point I noticed in patients applying for treatment is the resistance to the use of antidepressants. This situation complicates the treatment path of physicians and prevents appropriate intervention for the patient. Let's not forget that if the current depressive attack is not treated, it becomes easier for the next depressive attack to occur. Let's be open to treatment, let's not lose our
goals for the future and our joy of life...
