Scabies is popularly known as scabies. Also known as 'gale' or 'gigigik'. The scabies bug, 'Sarcoptes Scabiei Von Hominis', is large enough to be seen only with the help of a microscope or magnifying glass, and it spends its entire life in the human body. It is passed from person to person through close contact. The insect moves by opening tunnels in the upper layers of the skin and causes itching. As a result of this itching, inflammation of the skin may occur. Scabies has nothing to do with dirt; the bug can also live on clean skin; The belief that scabies is a disease of dirty people is not true!!!

What are the symptoms?

Patients with scabies mostly complain of itching at night. This may even wake the patient from his sleep. During the day, when the patient is inactive, an itch that is easier to bear may be observed. In addition, broken lines or S-shaped tunnels up to 1 cm can be considered specific symptoms of scabies. The holes in the tunnel ceiling are filled with dirt, causing black dots to appear on the line. These points are important in diagnosing the disease. There are also pearl-like vesicles at the ends of the tunnels or independently of them. These tunnels are mostly localized in the forearms, 85% of which are hands and wrists, and in the genital area in men. Scabies is most commonly seen between the fingers, wrists, inner parts of the arms, genital area, lower abdomen, hips and legs. Chest, back and head are the areas that are not affected, but scabies can be seen on the entire skin surface in babies.

How is Scabies Transmitted?

Scabies has the risk of spreading easily in society when conditions are suitable. It is an infectious disease. The source of infection is people infected with scabies. Scabies is transmitted through close contact. The frequent occurrence of the disease in infants and children confirms this. A person with scabies easily transmits the disease to family members. Contact such as dancing and shaking hands can also be a cause of transmission. The use of the patient's laundry, sheets and other belongings by others is a less common form of transmission compared to the above.

What are the Ways of Protection?
