What is gynecomastia?
Structurally, male breasts are not much different from female breasts. The only reason why male breasts are small is that there is not enough female hormones in the male body. However, in some cases, the male breast begins to grow spontaneously and almost takes the shape of a female breast. This is a disease and is called "gynecomastia" in medicine.
What are the causes of gynecomastia?
There may be many causes of gynecomastia. Some diseases, such as severe liver disorders such as cirrhosis, and some medications, such as the once widely used stomach medicine (cimethidine) can cause gynecomastia. However, in most cases of gynecomastia, there is no reason. In other words, this disease occurs spontaneously, without any cause, to a large extent. Gynecomastia is also seen in the majority of bodybuilding athletes. This is due to the high amounts of male hormones they use as stimulants. As the male hormone is destroyed after being used in the body, an intermediate substance similar to the female hormone emerges, which causes breast enlargement when in high amounts.
Gynecomastia Surgery:
Two types of surgery are performed. If the growing mammary gland is soft and oily, only liposuction or fat removal surgery may be sufficient. But hard and large gynecomastia need to be removed with open technique. However, this is not a surgery with scars. A semicircular incision is made under the nipple, at the junction of the breast and the colored part, and the mammary gland is removed from here. If necessary, liposuction is also performed. This is a minor surgery. It takes approximately an hour and is not a painful surgery. There is no need to stay in hospital. The dressings are removed after two days and can be washed on the third day. You can return to work on the fourth day.
