One of the important issues that families have difficulty controlling lately is the use of technological devices. According to Turkish Statistical Institute data, approximately 8 out of 10 families have access to the internet recently. As access to the Internet becomes easier and can be accessed through various technological devices, it becomes more difficult to control it. As long as the security of internet use is ensured, it allows access to a lot of information easily and quickly. However, its uncontrolled use causes emotional injuries and cognitive difficulties, as well as physiological problems.
Excessive exposure to emotional anxiety and fear content is especially prevalent in children who are in the concrete period and have not yet switched to abstract thinking, this group being primary school students. To put it simply, it can manifest itself as hypersensitivity and intense fear towards life events. Children, on the other hand, experience inadequacy in how to cope with these situations. There may be some complaints that did not exist before but have just begun to emerge that attract your attention. If we look at these, *Listing various excuses for not being alone in the room,
*Worrying about moving between rooms even though it is bright or daytime,
In a cognitive sense, paying attention and focus times, and the quality of these times are affected by screen use. When looking at games and videos, it is possible to notice that the purpose there is to keep the attention there and continue watching the video or playing the game. In the case of videos, there is a hint and curiosity to click on the next one, while in games it is possible to see that a new stimulus is constantly given, mostly by moving to the next level or collecting some objects of material or technological value. However, the new, colorful, intriguing and lively stimuli that come frequently are not as intense in the flow of life as in games or videos. Therefore, some situations that are frequently encountered in children and young people are observed. These are:
*Bored of daily life, unable to adapt,
*Activity to spend their free time They become individuals who have difficulty in creating and finding e-commerce, who do not enjoy life activities, who live in a vicious circle where they develop an attitude of deriving their pleasure entirely from technological devices.
Physiologically, the addictive use of technology by some children and young people causes them to move away from activities that require walking, playing physical games, and group coordination with their peers. Sitting constantly and focusing on a single stimulus restricts the range of motion. Beginning exposure at an early age and spending extensive time on the TV-Tablet-Phone triangle;
*Physical development,
*Language development,
*There may be difficulties in the development of physical coordination skills.
Unfortunately, some threatening stimuli cause serious physiological and psychological harm by advising them to harm themselves.
In a sociological sense, in addition to all these, it may be possible to adopt a familiar behavior when exposed to violent games and videos and perceive this as normal. Therefore, the behaviors exhibited affect social relationships and may cause loneliness.
*Children who cannot get along with their friends
*Children who often play violent games and carry them into daily life may have difficulties in social adaptation.
ATTENTION!
It should not be forgotten that it is important to be cautious when it comes to using all devices with screens and internet (tablet, computer, phone and TV). Because in the technological world where colorful and constantly new stimuli come, it is not appropriate to leave the control of internet usage directly to children. Families should take the necessary steps in this regard; It should keep track of the videos and games watched and encourage children to use the internet safely. The time spent with all these devices should be determined in advance and should not be introduced to the child as a prohibition. Use should be ensured by making an explanation regarding their health and safety in accordance with their age.
