Experts emphasized that breast cancer is a treatable disease and stated that by taking precautions, the chances of early diagnosis can be increased and satisfactory results are possible with preventive treatment methods with increased success rates.
Prof. Dr. Kaan Oysul stated that breast cancer is a disease that can be cured with early diagnosis, but attention should be paid to the side effects of treatment methods. Oysul said, "In radiotherapy given externally to the patient, we face the risk of secondary cancer in the opposite breast, lung cancer after 20 years, and cardiological side effects in the heart. In Intraoperative Radiotherapy, one of the developing methods, we apply radiotherapy to the patient during surgery, and we do not encounter these side effects because radiation does not reach other organs." .
With the development of surgical techniques in recent years, protective surgical methods have begun to be used in which only the tumor is removed from the breast instead of removing the entire breast, Prof. Dr. Kaan Oysul continued as follows: "Drug treatment includes targeted chemotherapies with fewer side effects." , hormone treatments began to be applied. At the same time, in radiotherapy, we had the opportunity to focus on the diseased area and apply treatment to that area, while better protecting the surrounding healthy tissues. After our surgeons remove the tumor, we send the piece to pathology, and according to the results of the analysis, if the patient is suitable for treatment, we take action. We place the applicator of our device where the tumor was removed and apply Intraoperative Radiotherapy."
IT ALSO PROVIDES ACCELERATED TREATMENT
Prof. Dr. Oysul also stated that the method saves time for the patient and said, " The patient recovers from 6 weeks of radiotherapy and receives compressed treatment within 20 minutes during surgery. The method has results equal to the other 6-week treatment. More importantly, in this way, the surrounding healthy tissues are also protected," he said.
EARLY DIAGNOSIS IS ALSO IMPORTANT FOR PREVENTIVE TREATMENT
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Erkan Öztürk is also alive. He stated that early diagnosis, which has a significant impact on survival rates, also plays an active role in the successful application of breast-conserving surgical methods. Öztürk, who mentioned four components for the early diagnosis of the series, continued: "We recommend that breast self-examination be performed in two consecutive procedures. When the arms are hanging down in front of the mirror, the hand is on the waist or the head is lifted up, it should be checked for swelling, color change, nipple change, redness, etc. Then, lying down, the arm should be placed under the head on the side to be examined; the breast tissue should be tried to be felt between the breast skin and the chest wall with three fingers of the other hand. Since they do not recognize the breast tissue at the beginning, our patients may consider everything they see as a different lesion and be afraid. However, within a few months, the person "This job becomes much easier once you know yourself. Early diagnosis can only be achieved when women are aware of breast cancer, self-breast examination, physician examination and screening mammography are combined."
