Sexual myth; It is the name given to the beliefs that are formed by telling untrue, exaggerated, false and fabricated stories about sexuality among the public through word of mouth.
The word myth comes from the English word "Myth" and can be translated into Turkish as "superstition". Sexual myths may also be referred to as "sexual myths". Sexual myths, which have grown over time and taken hold in society as if they were true, have taken hold in the minds of young people and cause vaginismus, premature ejaculation, erectile dysfunction, sexual reluctance, etc. It can cause many sexual problems such as: The reason why sexual myths that are talked about in society and circulated from mouth to mouth are so effective and powerful; In our country, neither parents nor educators give any education to our young people, considering that sexuality is shameful, forbidden and sinful.
While importance is given to the institution of marriage in our country, sexuality, which has a very important place for reproduction and psychological health, is almost absent. It continues to lead to unhappy and conflicting marriages.
Here are some of the most common sexual myths:
-The size of the male sexual organ is very important.
The most common sexual myths seen by men. One of the topics of obsession is penis size. Although the average penis length is 14 centimeters, those between 10-18 centimeters are considered normal sizes. Contrary to popular belief, there is no direct relationship between penis size and sexual performance. Additionally, vaginal stimulation is concentrated in 1/3 of the vagina. This fundamentally destroys the obsession with penis size. Based on this, it can be said that penis size cannot be the only criterion for a happy and satisfying sexual life. It is very important for couples to establish open and sincere communication with each other and to value each other's desires, desires and expectations for a satisfying and healthy sexual life.
-The first sexual intercourse causes a lot of pain to the woman and bleeding occurs. If there is no bleeding during the first intercourse, the woman is not a virgin.
Sexual intercourse does not cause pain or suffering. If the woman is aroused and wet during sexual intercourse and does not tense herself, there will be no pain during the first or subsequent intercourse. The function of the vagina is to contain the penis and ensure the continuation of the generation. Just as other organs in our body experience pain or pain while performing their duties. If there is no pain, the vagina does not cause pain or suffering while performing its function of giving and receiving pleasure. The hymen is a flexible structure with a congenital hole, located right near the entrance to the vagina, and there is a slight opening in the hymen during the first intercourse. In fact, no bleeding is normally expected. Under normal conditions, a normal hymen does not bleed, perforate, burst or tear. When the penis enters the vagina during the first sexual intercourse, there is a slight opening in the hymen. At this point, if the woman is comfortable, does not tense herself, and is wet, she will not feel this entrance. The phenomenon called the opening of the hymen is like a thin sock getting stuck somewhere and running away. In addition, the blood coming from the hymen is not like bleeding from the finger, but a vague liquid. This is not even noticed if the woman is comfortable, does not tense herself, is completely wet and the man is not in a hurry.
-Masturbation reduces sexual desire and potency.
The most valid and common sexual act. For some reason, masturbation is emphasized as harmful and a sin in Turkish society. It is also natural because it helps the person relax and experience sexuality without harming anyone. Those who say that masturbation reduces sexual power are wrong. What is harmful is not masturbation, but the negative beliefs that accompany it, such as shame, sin or harmfulness. Masturbation is one of the main indicators that a person is at peace with himself. If masturbation is done correctly, it creates a process that contributes positively to a person's sexuality. However, when it is done with the fear of being caught and the feeling of committing a sin, it can program the man to ejaculate prematurely and the woman not to enjoy sexuality, and the feeling of guilt, which we often encounter in men, can lead to erection problems and sexual reluctance in the future.
As can be understood, these examples I have given can be multiplied and even 500. Even a one-page book could be written. But of course this does not lead us to a solution. So what is the solution? The most important thing is to provide education about gender and sexuality to our children from the moment they are born. And as a society, we must first make reading and research a habit. If this happens, the mind does not believe every myth anyway, and can use its ability to filter all of these through your own mind. In the light of science, with real information I wish you to live...
