Why Am I Tired Every Day?

We physicians encounter this question a lot in our daily outpatient clinics. It's like a math question with many unknowns; Because the human body is many times more complex and magnificent than the tools we call cutting-edge technology. Just in our brain, 100 thousand chemical reactions take place per second; just think about the rest. Any deficiency or problem in the functioning wheels of this system may cause the system to malfunction and make us feel tired.

You understand that we cannot address every cause of fatigue here. Then let's examine the most common causes.

• ANEMIA: It is the first reason that comes to mind when it comes to fatigue, especially in women. It can develop due to many vitamin deficiencies, but we see it most often in iron and B12 deficiency. Even if your blood levels are normal, lack of vitamin stores can cause fatigue. In addition, even if it does not cause anemia, vitamin D deficiency or lack of blood salts will make you tired.

• HORMONE DISORDER: Thyroid hormone disorder is most common. The thyroid is the orchestra conductor of energy metabolism in our body. Apart from thyroid, adrenal gland hormone disorders or insulin resistance are also causes of fatigue.

• ORGAN FAILURE: If any of our organs cannot function properly, we may feel fatigue. Therefore, at least a liver and kidney function test may be required.

• SLEEP DISORDER: You cannot expect a rested body to wake up refreshed. There are many reasons; such as snoring, sleep apnea, psychological factors, consuming caffeine before going to bed or excessive consumption of spices.

• SUGAR DISORDERS: Both high and low sugar levels are the cause of fatigue. Especially those who just say 'I'm tired in the morning and can't get out of bed' may have morning hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). If a person feels tired after meals during the day, it may be due to blood sugar levels fluctuating more than normal.

• MEDICATION SIDE EFFECT: Some medications you are using can cause serious fatigue. Even if it does not cause side effects, it may make you tired; For example, if you take a blood pressure pill and it lowers your blood pressure more than necessary, you may feel tired. Similarly, if your diabetes medication lowers your blood sugar too much, you may feel tired. You may also be using medications that make you feel tired due to their side effects. For example: allergy medications, m such as nausea and cholesterol medications.

• NUTRITIONAL DISORDER: It is a cause of fatigue that is always overlooked. It may be necessary to review the diet, although it varies depending on the person and the disease. In addition, eating lettuce, cherries, sweet foods, and pastries may cause fatigue in some people.

• CHRONIC FATIGUE SYNDROME: Especially people aged 30-50 should be adequately rested. It is a condition that manifests itself with symptoms such as constantly feeling tired, reluctance and unhappiness for months. It is a long topic that requires professional diet, supplements and psychological support.

I tried to summarize a very long topic for you. In my future articles, we will talk about many diseases here separately. Wishing you to stay healthy and happy..
